ive just bought a 52 desoto front bumper with good chrome to fit on my 49 styleline, also ive got hold of 6 overriders, to use as teeth, any tips on making them?
hi guys, wadya recon? i fitted teeth today, old overriders from a 40s british car,ive painted bottom grille matt black, not sure wether to to paint top part of grille matt black,???
Yeah, take the top back to chrome. This way it doesn't begin to look ratty or cheap. The chrome adds design class. How about an angled shot?
The bumper looks a little too heavy for the Chevy. Too blocky, needs to be more rounded not so square. Nice car. Just my 2 cents worth.
The teeth look abit large for the opening, I tried many different ways and just finished mine the other day. Its a tough decision with so many options you just need to go with what you like. If you like it then that's all that counts.
Lookin good. I love the bumper. Most tooth grilles have an odd number of teeth, to center a tooth rather than a gap. Is another tooth available, for a total of 7? If not, have you tried 5 teeth? Also, are the teeth identical top and bottom? If not, have you tried them inverted? (Just curious.)
all bolted up to original brackets, can i have your opinions before i drill bumper,as to where to have license plate, center,, or end???
I like to center and line everything up on the front. The plate should be centered. The grill should have a tooth centered to follow the hood center trim all the way to the center trim between the windshields. It would like right that way.
Just flipped top to bottom, if there is a difference. It's hard to tell from the pictures. (The new pictures look like the same top to bottom.)
yeah, the bottom is slightly wider, but what diff will that make tho? i might redo it with 5 like you say, or if i find 2 similar 1s,that are a bit smaller to use at either end and have 7
ok,i turned them other way up and added 2 smaller 1s at each end, using 5 of the 6 i had, NOW,,do ya think it looks right??? thanx for all advise and input guys,
Now you're talkin'! Flipping the teeth brings them below the upper bar level. Nice! Two identical teeth might look better than the small ones, but I'd roll with what you've got. Measure your spacing from tooth center to tooth center, NOT distance between teeth. (And the plate definitely goes in the center of the bumper.) You done good!
Use just the Desoto bumper with the Chevy chrome stock grille surround and horizontal Chevy chromed bar. Ditch the pointed parking lights and the vertical bumperettes as they make the car too gaudy. as if it has a mouth full of protuding overbite teeth. Keeping it simple would then give you a nice , clean custom.
Oh! Someone may have already mentioned the parking lights... Keep the Caddy bezels, but cop some domed (stock) lenses. Let your teeth do the cutting. You're a 'gator, not a boar.
just had to make fill in pieces for corners coz desoto bumper is a lot wider, also i only need 1 more overrider to swap an end 1
