If it was about trophy's, I could have bought a hell of a lot of them had I used my money for that instead of building a car. So I get it.
GG's is a joke. Of course its about the money for them, but there should be a little more appreciation for the people that OWN what they are charging to show, AND charging to view. Plus they get the crowds to visit their Merchandise wagons to sweeten the pot for them. They need to back off on the entry fee amounts if they have nothing of value to give the car owners (that make the money for them)

NSRA, I've won a Walker radiator at Knoxville and Lokar cables at Burlington. I know of 3-4 guys in my home town that have won stuff at NSRA shows. In fact my wife's cousin won a Chevy pick-up in burlington when they gave trucks away. Also a friend of mine won the giveaway car last year at the Syracuse nationals. Are the odds good, no but you can't win anything if you're not there.

  3. Complaining about the give-away items. Talk about a 1st world problem!

Y'all complain about the price to attend a GoodGuys event, but if you compare it to other events it's really not that out of line. For example, the Back to the Fifties is $60 if you don't pre-register and the HAMB Drags is $40; neither of which include a monthly magazine and one of which is only a day-long event with far fewer attendees.

I remember paying $65 in 1988 for the Car Craft Street Machine Nats and Hod Rod Supernats in Canfield.
Good Guys isn`t that out of line. You got more than that in your pedal assy on your hot rod...

Really? I seriously believe that some you guys are in the wrong hobby. I don't know where you get the $75.00 number but if you're not a member it's $70.00. But if you are a member and register ahead of time it's only $40.00. Where else can you get admission to a car show for TWO people, for a THREE day show for $40.00? What else can two people do for three days for $40.00? And it's more than just a car show, there's lots of other stuff to do and see and some of you guys are whining about the giveaways? Really?

  9. There are a couple well know locals "R" and "D" that have said to me more than once
"we only go to shows where we are guaranteed of winning jackets"
(to go with the other 8 or 10 that are hanging on the trophy wall)

After all.... why would anyone take the time and energy to load the enclosed triple axle trailer and make sure you had a fresh California Duster if winning wasn't a lock!

If I ever start sounding like that, someone kick the lawn chair out from under me

If you think the the giveaways are crap now, just imagine what they would be if every show had to have something waiting for everyone that came just for a prize! Raffles and contests are just that, a set number of people win a set number of prizes. Everyone isn't going to win or they'd just hand everyone a promo sticker and cheap key chain at the door. In other words, go for the show, if you win something you came out ahead. If you don't like what you won, give it to someone that does. If you think the show isn't worth the price of admission, stay home and check out the posted pictures on here.

I go to the good guy's show every year and have a good time. I realize they are a business and attempting to make money. I don't go to win prizes or trophies, i go to look at cars and have a good time. I hear a lot of people bitching that they can't bring their own beer in and etc. Everyone seams to forget these venders are there to make a living. So i guess if you don't like the way they do things don't go.

Okay .With all my previous comments withstanding ,I am a 10+ year GG member I will be going for 1 day this Sat. I will gladly hand over the Money for a one day deal. I will buy T shirts Hat and maybe a sweatshirt,All are high quality.
I will buy food there I will drink a beer or so and tip the bartender And...View a lot of stunning cars and of course I will have a good time with my friends But I think raffles are raffles no "Coopins"to spend more....... NOW! some are shopping sprees .Great! Some is you send in a voucher for a accessory Cool! But a 10=50% coupon on a $500 retail purchase come on! These "Deals" you can get here! If GG allows it they own it and its sounds a little penny wise and dollar poor to me

I agree with 2002p51, the admission price is fair and I go for the cars and people. I don't expect to get a prize or a trophy. Look at it from the vendors viewpoint, how many NSRA and Goodguys shows are there a year? How much of their product do you expect them to giveaway. Being a person that has to travel to all these shows my complaint is with the local hotels that jack the rates up everytime.

I hear ya on the discount thing. It's just some marketing teams way to try to get you to buy the big ticket items no one are buying. There are the discount deals everywhere trying to get you to buy more than you want to get a deal on what you are there for. The store down the street from me has a gallon of milk for $3.00, but if you have a preferred shopper card it's only $2.49, but wait! If you spend $25 on crap you don't need and use this coupon, you can get it for only $1.49! The game is out there everywhere you look.

  19. I don't attend shows with any expectations of winning door prizes or awards,if it happens it's a perk.

I have been fortunate enough to win a few extraordinary door prizes.

The Grill shell I was referring too earlier I posted it on a auction here to help Rick (Rickybop) when his wife Sandy died suddenly...

It was a great way to help a fellow member in a time of need. HRP

So, boy's what say the GG buy a banner here in HAMB town to spread the Gazette further, faster harder, longer (Viagra too) bigger better than ever. Win-win.

For me, a trophy is out of reach and a prize would be a nice plus, but the last 2 times I went to Goodguys Des Moines, I signed up for the print Gazette and never got a single issue.

I've never been to a Good Guys or NSRA event, but I do know the local shows have had problems in the last few years securing door prizes and goody bag fillers. A lot of the stuff used to be cheap advertising for local business, but with the crappy economy the last few years they have had to cut back on the freebies. I helped with a charity motorcycle ride a couple of years ago, I don't have a bike so I was volunteered to help by a friend, and we had a hard time just getting business to give us a few pencils and notepads. In years past, you could get bags full of the stuff. I suspect the internet also has something to do with it, why pay to have stuff printed up with your name on it when you can advertise on facebook and other sites for free?

I don't go to shows for plaques or trophy's, but if I win something, I'm thankful somebody appreciated my vehicle enough to vote for it. I go to enjoy myself, surrounded by vehicles and people that are all works of art in their own way. When I start home, tired of walking and talking and standing, I have a smile on my face from driving my car. That's what it's all about.....

I could care less about Good Guys,NSRA or door prizes, all I want to know is why this got a featured thread tag.
