img_1876 small.jpg I am a real sucker for the 40 Ford. I am just getting started on a coupe to keep my rpu company. Here it is 'barn fresh' next to my pick-up (not hard to tell which one would win a limbo contest). I don't plan to cut the coupe like I did the truck. It will be an early '60s hot rod like it started out. I do have a bunch of work ahead of me including some rust repair but the old coupe deserves the attention. It started out as a standard and I have all the stuff to but it back. There is just something about the standard that I really like.

Your truck is really intriguing. Have there been any build threads or magazine features on it? I'd like to see all the rest of it.

  7. That one belongs to Lou Nolfo, out of the St Louis area. I had my beater coupe up there last weekend for that event. It can be seen somewhere in his photos that he shared, lurking in the background.

Thanks 50Fraud. You have to be very careful cutting a 40. Since they start out so nice, it is hard to improve them and easy to screw them up. I have been watching your build and know that you have done a bunch of cutting and all in a positive direction!

I spend a lot of time on the HAMB but I have not done any build threads. Ron Covell however did write an article about the metal work that I did on my phantom roadster pickup. It was in the April 2012 Street Rodder magazine (starts on page 40 appropriately enough). The truck, in a finished state did get a feature in Streetscene and in an east coast quarterly magazine called Hot Rods and Harleys. I was surprised and humbled by the coverage as I do all the work myself in my home garage and was only trying to build something that I liked, not to get ink.

I do have a top for it but seldom use it because I enjoy the open air cruising.

My wife and I have driven it from Michigan down to Louisville and over to Syracuse for those shows so we have been getting some highway miles on it but mostly driving around town and to local cruise nights.

1940rpu, you and several others on here make me think I should have taken up golf. What a beautiful piece of work. Heck I was proud of myself just being able to get the front sheet metal halfway decently lined up on my 40. Great job on your pickup.

    How true!
I'm sorry that I haven't seen any of those publications. Your truck is really a nice piece of work, and it turned out really well.

Most 40 fords that have undergone many body change most of the time don't look as good to me as the Henry built car There are many nice cars on this thread but 50 Fraud & 1940 RPU have absolutely built awesome vehicles Just my thoughts Congrads

I agree with above-- I like them pretty much as they were built but I must say that 50Fraud and1940rpu have done a fantastic job on these 40's

Today's social media find, a '40 woodie. This past week took the missus to the local mall and there in the Sears parking lot was a great '39 deluxe woodie. Brave soul to lave a car like that in a mall parking lot unattended! If, and I say IF, I trade up from my coupe, this is what I would want. Hey at my age you need a dream. C.S. Lewis once said, "you are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream".

Well then, let's see an updated picture of your 40 convertible. Heck we haven't seen your coupe up close in a while either.

Judging from the message I got when I renewed, this would cause the Hagerty people to shiver!!

  22. I live across the street from the Chief Marketing Officer for the company that insures my hot rods. I'm sure that he cringes every time he sees me pull out of my driveway, and has a sense of relief when I pull back in unscathed. I'll never forget the look on his face when I pulled in with a cubic yard of mulch in the bed of my '40 stake truck!

Social media pic of the day, in storage since '71, ressurected this month. Merc flathead, dropped axle, sure deserves to be back on the road. 11737846_10207410515686282_848257828957285506_n.jpg

Speaking of Bonneville, how about this shot of the Rolling Bones chase vehicle taken in Ohio on their way to the salt in 2013. img_2104 small.jpg

Closer to home, here is Jon's 40 coupe. There is a shot of this car on page 5 of this thread inside of Cobo Hall but I just wanted to show that Jon drives this beautiful coupe (just like all the other rods that he owns). kathy confer procession 10oc13 ab small.jpg

One more tonight; shot even closer to home. A couple of us 40s that happen to meet up behind the Hot Dog Stand during Flint's Back to the Bricks cruise night.

I don't have anything to add, and my '40 is near the front of this thread, but HAMB once again dropped my notification subscription and I'm posting in hopes of renewing it.
