Hot Rods Tony's 38 Willys pickup....Build pic's

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Jul 15, 2015.

  1. I have been doing some fab work for my friend Tony from Bakersfield. He bought this pickup as a rolling shell at the CA Hot Rod reunion swap meet. Tony is hotrodtodd1960 here on the H.A.M.B. and already has one Willys, a 37 sedan with a 6.71 blown small block Ford and a 4 spd. The sedan is not gasser style but the pick up will be and will be built for the street.

Here is what we started with. Funky Mustang II, no floor or firewall etc. The cab itself is pretty nice.

Wow, I love them Willys pickups.
What do you do to keep your bead roller lines nice and straight? Mine wanders all over the place making it really hard to keep in control.

Damn, your work is just so clean and sanitary-every time i see your builds i think "oh, that's how it's supposed to be done, if i could learn to do it right, then it wouldn't take me 10 times as long to get 1/10th the results" Never met you or talked to you but you seem to have a very "matter of fact" way of thinking that just gets right down to business. I'm learning alot. Thank you for sharing your work-rick.

  21. Thanks for the comments!

oldrelics.... you may be pressing your bead too deep, I only go deep enough to get a nice bead and concentrate on following he line. I have a power roller which makes a huge difference.

Here are some pics of figuring out the cutout for the rear fenders....

  23. We are using fat fender fenderwell headers but they need modifications, They are being cut close the head and tilted up for MC clearance and the tiny collectors are being cut off and big 60's style collectors are replacing them.

  24. Nice Pick-up, are you leaving the 38 front sheet metal or using the plastic piece in the background ? JW

  27. 26 T Ford RPU.... Tony plans on running the 37 steel nose. The 'glass 41 nose is mine, I got it from Tony in trade along with the front wheels on the truck, Tony has a pair of the same only polished to replace these. I also got a Speedway straight axle, New fiberglass 40 Willys dash and the bed off this truck as Tony has ordered a brand new bed from Mack products, The bed in the pics is not very straight. I have enough parts now to build another pickup from sedan panels one day if I want to. Tony will be running 15x8 1/2 Ansen Sprint slot mags on the back, the Cragars are mine , just using them for rollers.
