History Time Capsule: 31 Ford Model A Drag A/Gas Coupe

  1. Wouldn't it have been illegal to run without a firewall at the track? It sure would have been windy at least.

  2. That sure is one heck of an engine set back .

I do have a dash panel with some old SW gauges I plan to bolt back on that came off it, also the fenders they told me it was raced with. I'm going to try to get the firewall from them, it was raced with it but removed when worked on. Also going to do some more digging but I do believe it was on alchy, it has very small coolant lines and an electric water pump telling me it ran very very cool, plus the pump up front as well.

Agreed! When I opened it up I was shocked the time someone put into the door panels and interior. I already did "wash" it up with some dish soap to removed the 50 years of dust and grime although it was a tough call, was almost thinking to just leave it as is. Appreciate all the kind words!

I did already wash it but really don't plan to repaint/redo much. Really love how old and original the car is. Going to get it up and runnig in the next couple weeks!

It was always ran with the firewall, just removed to be worked on for easier access with the engine set back.

  7. Most of those old cars were built with a removable firewall for just that reason. I knew a guy in the '70s that ran a sedan with mega setback that used the dog house from a van.

I was only joking abut no dash no firewall by the way.

Ok here's the latest. I've been in touch with the former owners son in law hoping for more info. The car was owned by Michael Crugnale and raced in Middletown in the late 50's/early 60's. He was part of the Road Rebels from Brooklyn NY.

How am I supposed to stay focused on anything when things like this keep coming up? That car DOMINATES! I'd get it running and leave everything else alone.

That's cool. Looks like it still has the original model A steering. I bet that was fun at 100mph!!

Very nice, maybe it ran 'Altered' with that much engine setback, gas allowed 10% I think, and in the Altered classes you could run alcohol. Is that a pressureized fuel system? I don't see a pump excapt what looks like one at the tank.
Very neat old car. Is the frame boxed at all?
