Thought I would join and post some pictures if you don't mind. I do tend to take more than a few pictures though. I cc'd the chamber and it ended up being 74.7cc after the .052 surface. I will officially call 75cc's. PIC_2461.JPG PIC_2462.JPG

Everyone on the H.A.M.B. knew the cc before I did.:D

Yeah the cc around the intake valve was 4.3 and the exhaust was 70.4.

  6. The block punched .040-

Looks great. Since you are doing so much to this engine, consider putting in a full circle oil seal in the rear.

Just a little more work and a couple $$.

Have a 235/261 block prep question ? Is there any downside to decking the block to raise the compression ratio and just a cleanup pass/passes on the head... Seems like this would eliminate the need to sink the intakes and maintain good valvetrain geometry... Just curious what inliners think about this approach thanks, Dyno Dave

What cam & pistons are you using? I'm in the process of building a 292 Inline 6.....JT

  14. Sorry I didn't get back... I see you got answer in the 261 tread.

    I am using Egge pistons.

The machinist (Tom Green and Gorge Green of B&G engine service @BnG Engine & my father as well ) and I talked about forged but they have never had an issue with Egge.

As stated before I am looking for a strong traditional hot rod engine

I have an Isky E-4 cam in the 261 in my 53 Chevrolet 150 (see my avatar)

I think will run it in this engine as well.

I don't have the cam card handy.

  15. The roar of that 6 using the vette exhaust will be some kind,of,sweet. Used the corvette manifold in a 54 chevy convertible with a Powerglide. Had to use a crossover/H pipe for sound. Under heavy throttle just before the 1-2 shift it got VERY loud.

Decking the block is good. Cleans up mating surfaces an bumps up comp ratio. Most of the time the Piston sits well below the top of the block. If not stick the Pistons in a lathe and trim the top a bit. Biggest issue is valve/head clearance. The piston can potentially slap the intake valve or head itself. Some cleaning of the head area and check the valve can eliminate the issue. Secondly, there can be an issue with carbon build up in the same intake area.

IMHO egge is the last place I would buy Pistons from. There are several excellent manufactures of new forged Pistons. I would talk with Ross or JE Pistons. Both are superior in quality and worth the extra cost.

Here are some more pictures of the head. Slightly larger O.D. springs at a taller assembled height to get rid of the rotators or excessive shimming. You could possibly use the big block chevy rotator eliminators to get a shorter installed height spring which would open up the use of common sbc springs.

  23. Thank-You,

I have been collecting parts for this project since I was in high school, fifteen years ago.

I know that the "that's not that long ago" comments are coming.

  25. My '30 coupe is getting an overhaul. The 4banger is tired. I picked up a '62 Chevy 194 w/ power glide attached. Its not a crime to run inline!

  29. Not much to report engine or chassis wise.

I just picked this up from Joel Davis at Pikes Pike Motor Co.
