Thanks, 4everblue. Dad's Hillman WAS a '48 after all. I think he sold it for $25 and the guy hauled it away.

Yes, that sure does look like a Hillman, and probably a 49. They were quite common here in New Zealand up until the mid 60's. The suicide doors, and the hood lifted up at the front along with the grille . I think they were virtually unchanged from 1947 to 49.

The prefect was similar but the first giveaway for me that it was not a prefect was the shape of the glass. The rear doors and front doors use the same shape glass. I used a passenger side rear glass to replace a drivers side front glass on one I had many years ago.

After World War II this beautiful city was destroyed for 70-80%, by bombing, 363 air raids, and ground battles, especially by the battle for Berlin itself, May 1945. I think Berlin never looked this "good" again after WW2, because of the Cold War etc.

swi66, you've hit the motherload of later 60's Aussie drag racing pics - some from Victoria and some from NSW.
A couple of FX/FJ customs along with plenty of EH's, HD's and HR's showing in the background

  17. The 'telephone box' coupe is a 1908 Cadillac Model T. Looks as if the pic was taken much later than that by the truck in the background. The coupe has been fitted with later model wheels with detachable rims.
The truck with the plate X2-229 is a 1936 GMC.
In the garage full of late twenties cars, at lower right is a 1927 Cadillac with optional disc wheels which are quite rare .
