Hot Rods 1928 ford closed cab pickup project

Thought I would share a few pics of my current project. My garage is full with my 64 chevelle two door wagon I have been working on also, so my father n law, John Olay, told me to bring the truck to his place where we got room and we have been working on it together over there, has been a lot of fun learning from him and getting some of his knowledge! Since he has done unknown number of model a's and 32's there's no one better to learn from! I think he has really liked it to so far too!

28 model a truck, un-chopped and full fendered, the way they should be!

Been collecting parts and it's finally coming together! I'm using a brookville frame and box, 4" drop axle, 8" ford, 4.3 chevy V6 and 350 trans. Getting ready to tear it apart and get it blasted now.

Nice start . Just the way I like my Model A trucks - full fendered & unchopped ... I'll be watching !!

 

The 28-29 unchopped,full fendered pickup's have always been tops as far as I'm concerned. HRP

 

Full fendered and unchopped phone booth is exactly right. Funny, most of our crowd under 30 are asking "what's a phone booth?" Can't wait to see your progress.

That's a nice truck! What wheels will you run, because those front ones looks like mock up wheels.

I love chopped a slight bit, but the look where work-ish when tall. I would only chop the hight of the header panel. The side windows get an much better profile when not square.


But other then that, nice truck. Any pictures of the frame? What suspension set up?

Yes they are mock up wheels. Not sure on what wheels yet, steelies, wires, or a halibrand style wheels are the options I like... but leaning more towards the halibrand style.
I don't have pics of the frame right now... it has 4 bar front, 4" drop axle, posi spring, 4 bar rear with coil overs.

Love it! Like everyone else has said, I like my PUs full fendered, unchopped and hugging the weeds. To me the '28/'29 is the nicest of the early PUs - I love the sweep in the cowl sides and how the front fenders really curl over and cover the front wheels and tires.

I set my part about the side windows. But overall, it a beautiful shape, and the fenders deserves to be on, after all it is a truck!
And anything that hugs the front tires are just right, but leave room in the rear fenders to load the parts for your next build. You don't want those nice fenders to hit those big tires at speed

 

I have seen them chopped a couple inches out of the header and doors, they look good that way!!
But I am to keep it stock height, I kinda like the original "phone booth" look!

I too have one , a 29. it gets a lot of attention . not much leg room , but a fun lil truck

 

Very cool truck. I had a '28 with a flathead in it, wish I still had it. Enjoy!

 

Haven't posted lately... Got a lot of work done though!
Changed the front 4 bar to hairpins for some extra ground clearance, exhaust, brake and fuel lines, steering & brake pedal assembly done.
I Got the cab, doors and dash bodywork pretty close and in primer. A lot of time in fitting it all so the gaps a good, etc.
Got the fenders and running boards fit pretty good now.
Now working on fitting the hood and latches, headlight bar and lights and making the grill insert, etc. We laid the front fenders down so the the braces & headlight bar had to be modified.

Gary, that thing is WAAAY DOWN THERE! Awesome stance - cool that you went to some extremes to get it so low (laying the fenders forward) and the switch to hairpins must net at least another inch. Very Cool.

Gary, that V-6 looks nice and tidy in there. Have you picked a color yet? The body looks straight as a string.
