The sad thing is that I know at-least 3 old dudes, with 3, or more of these, each. None will sell, or loan. They think they are sitting on Gold. The truth is more like their heirs will have them hauled away as scrap.
The other issue with running a 4-71 is finding the correct long drive snouts. It sounds like that will be easy for you to make as well. Oh and a 4x2's cragar style top plate would be the balls as well!
Dyers has snouts for 471. 700-900 bucks with 1/2 putch pulleys and belts. Ive done a 471 and its the same price for a 671 setup. The 671 makes way better power. Probably double on a small block. I wouldnt even think about a 4 again. They are good for flatheads.
A fellow HAMR'r is sending me a Cragar intake. Will post pics of the design when done. Thanks for lookin
Here at Ross Racing Engines..... We are also making the period correct V-drives for Early Olds, early Caddy,SBC , nailhead Buick and Ford Y-block shown here...... And Our parts will interchange with the Cragar drives as well.
Cant recommend Tony over at Ross Racing Engines enough. Guys are pros with these setups and have been HAMBers for 9 years now so you know they will stand over their work.
Now that our design and tooling is finished for the drives..... Our focus has shifted to SBC 4-71 intakes which is in final stages..... 4-71 Nailhead patterns have also been started... Then the early Olds.... and quite possibly the early Caddy...... Wasn't going to put this out just yet..... But it's good to let people know there will be options... And we are committed to this industry for the long haul.
In the mid 90's I came across a complete 3-71 SBC set up. Always wish I'd bought it. But..., oh well. Glad to hear the interest in the littler blowers. To me the 6-71 and larger set ups make me think of a slightly later time period. Thanks for every ones hard work. -Dave
Put me on the list if this happens. Too bad I sold my 4-71 to Jeff Norwell a while back. Have to find another one.
I saw a 4-71 CRAGAR manifold for 348 and 409 Chevy for sale a few years back and couldn't for the life of me come up with the money at the time. A short time later I paid over $400.00 for a CRAGAR timing cover for these motors. Still pisses me off to this day I missed that manifold.
Well isn't this getting interesting. 3 weeks ago no one was making a 4-71 intake for a SBC. Now there are 3 if you count Walden speed shop, Ross Racing Engines, and my self. I talked to Bobby Walden last week and their foundry tooling is about finished. Hmm - now which of them has in house CNC machining ability? Time will tell where this all goes. I should be getting the Cragar intake today. Looks like I better hustle a bit, with the design process. Will post picture of progress.
Yeah, I keep hearing that. Still, no product for sale. I will believe it when I have one, that didn't cost $2500, bolted to my SBC.
I have the intake 80% designed. Not thrilled with the pop off valve design. Do you guys have an issue with the pop off design being a 2 shoulder bolt design used on other blower intakes? This design could be serviced from the outside verses the inside for the Cragar design. I'm thinking of putting this pop off on the side of the intake under the blower.
I run a cragar intake on my Willys and that pop off valve is a pain in the ass I would much rather have the later style though you might leave enough meat in it for the guys who just have to have it the original way just my .02
OK I'll allow for either pop off valve. Since both are a machined in feature we can machine either valve port per customer's desire.
