Well, my 32 chassis isn't far from being done. I'm very excited. I've never gone from the ground up.

BTW, I'm having another HAMBer build the frame for me.

Anyway, I want to run drums on all four corners. I have a 8in rearend.

F-1 backing plates/brakes work with 37-41 spindles, right?
F-100's work with 42-48 spindles, right?

I just want to make sure I have it right in my head before I track down the wrong stuff.

Any opinions, recommendations, tricks etc. would be great.

    Thanks

F-100 brakes are actually a little easier to install on 42-48 spindles. You have to grind a notch in the spindle on a 37-41 spindle to clear the F-100 wheel cylinder (not a big deal), but not on a 42-48 "squareback" style. Just make sure you get the right inner bearings and seals for the swap. Better yet, read the F-100 brake swap thread in the Tech-O-Matic: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5877

F-1 spindles will work on a 28-48 axle, but not F-100 (the F-100s kingpin is larger). The problem is that an F-1 spindle has some butt ugly steering arms.
The F-100 brakes are a good, basically bolt-on swap.

To have your drums ported, or get one of their kits and DIY.

You will stop on a dime, wet or dry, and have no fade.

F-1 spindles will NOT work properly on a '28-36 (or '37-48 for that matter) axle.

The kingpin inclination is not the same on the F-1 spindles as on '28-48 spindles, and your camber will be way off....the tire will lean in at the top.

Hey, i plan on doing this conversion on an axle i'm picking up. The only minor problem i'm having is that O'reillys doesn't carry victor seals, and they can't cross refrence the inner seal number that i got from the tech post mentioned. Is there any way i can get the correct part number that O'reillys will have? If not can anybody give me a dimension of this inner seal so maybe i can find the correct one. O and i guess if no one know's that stuff, where can i get a victor brand seal?
    Thanks

    Thanks Bass.
    That's good info for 51ratt.

I was only thinking F-1 or F-100, with the F-100's my first choice. So I need to find a good pr. of 42-48 spindles.

Thanks again. and if anyone has those part numbers, that'd be good too.

Thanks Jeff. I left you a message.

    BTW, one last thing....

Are the F-1 and f-100 backing plates inner-changable?

I was under the impression that 37-41 spindles only fit F-1, and 42-48 spindles only fit f-100

I see that most of the new aftermarket spindles are "round" 37-41 style for use with F-1 backing plates/brakes.

Once this is cleared up, I will be set.

    Thanks again

  12. yes , F-1 and F-100 backing plates are the same

you can use either backing plate on either style spindle , with the grinding on the round ones as previously mentioned
