Here are my 1904's done now I can make the base for the boat vent air cleaners, and get the linkage done. Slow but steady. It'll get done.

johnny when you get to that point if you use any vacuum advance, pull it form the manifold and not the carb(s). These carbs are normally used with Fords odd Load-O-Matic distributor which had no mechanical advance.

Johnny, I don't think those carbs are "done".
    A) Remove float bowls
    B) Remove floats
    C) Polish floats to a high reflective shine
    D) Reassemble
    NOW, they're done.

I see you mounted them "sideways". That ought to make the linkage fabrication easier. I want to mount mine bowls-forward. I'll have to figure out how to work a side-pull carb with rear-pull cable. (What fun!)

They look great, though, and those air cleaners will make a good topper for them.

  4. Oh man, I've been wanting to get a couple of those glass bowls for my '59 Galaxie. I want to get one of those triple carb intakes for the 223.

I had a repop Offy dual intake with the glass bowls on my 52 215. Could never get them to sync properly so I took everything off.

Since then, I've acquired a rare Nicson dual intake. I also picked up a third 1904 glass bowl with the large Holley letters to join the other two large lettered bowl carbs in my collection.

Not sure what I'll do with all of it because I don't think I'll ever go back to the dual set up.

I have some of these and kept them because they look cool. Didn't realize anyone was using them.

Thanks for the comments, I talked with my carb builder, ans need to again, I believe I can pull vacuum from the carb, I think he said he worked the internals so I could, but if I mistook him I will pull it from the manifold. The center carbs will be the primary, front and rear are set up and jetted to be "secondaries" and I will make up a progressive linkage setup.

The adapters I made have the carbs sitting sideways, the Ford carb flange and the Chevy flange are different and I couldn't figure a good way to make a decent looking adapter. Making the linkage will be another adventure, but that's what it's all about.

Thanks everyone for the input and comments. I keep looking for the glass bowl carbs, they are just neat.

Please do speak with your carb builder and let us know what he said. If there is a way to successfully run those carbs with a dual advanced distributor I like to know. I know some of the 3-bolt two barrel carbs can be modified, but hadn't heard of it being done on the Load-O-Matic one barrel carb.

    Thanks -Dave

Rui you are right. I just looked, $275 + $50 core & freight across the pond for you! Last one I bought (2000) from a parts store had a $10 core charge. Plus went through 3 before getting one that wasn't junk out of the box. -Dave

Well getting closer to firing this motor up, I haven't talked with the Crab guys yet, I just want to get it running then get the cab in place, I only have one glass bowl carb left. I had mine done Carb Junky's, they really helped me out with carb setup, and jetting for my application, and gave great tuning advice

Finally got my motor running, All I have to do is adjust the carbs, adjust the idle and set the timing then onto the cab.

I told my best friend how yours were mounted and he sure did like that idea. But may change his mind hooking up the linkage but if it can be done then it will get done. Now to take the measurements on the intake and carbs and then contact my machinist friend to make them.
What is the height of them and did you put in studs to bolt the cabs down to the adaptor plates?
    Thanks

The Chevy manifold would not accept the Ford / Holley carb bolt pattern, I bought 4 slugs of 4 inch round, 1 inch thick aluminum, took it to my machinist buddy, he drilled the center hole, shoulder cut the mount bolt hole and offset the smaller Ford / Holley pattern. I used allen socket head bolts to bolt down the spacers and drilled and Helicoiled the carb mount holes and put short studs in them. Any other questions just holler, if you want some closer pics, let me know. Thanks.

That is slick. I will take some pictures of my effort maybe tomorrow. Not finished and not nearly as pretty as yours. How did you attach the linkage arms to the throttle shaft?

I bought the linkage kit for the Ford triple setup, made some brackets that bolt to the exhaust header studs, mounted the arms almost upside down and reversed from the instructions, I thought it was a cleaner look than making a conglomeration on the outside and take focus from the glass bowls, I'll try and get some good pics of that posted tomorrow. Thanks

Well we are dealing with all Ford on our setup but makes no difference. This is the only thing I have found that is 4" X 6" for $53 so this should work and give my machinist something to work with. What you think?

DSCN0133.JPG DSCN0132.JPG View attachment 3290824 DSCN0135.JPG View attachment 3290824 I want to start off with a disclaimer here. this adapter is not done as far as breaking edges and radiusing corners. But the thought is clear. My mainafold is for Winfield carburetors and has four 1/4 -20 threaded holes. But there is no reason someone couldn't drill and tap their mainafold the same way and avoid the OEM studs being in the way. Then they could turn the crab anyway they want I used some 1/2 inch tooling plate scraps I had around. Cut the plate sort of like the carb flange and intake flange. Tapped it for 3/8-20 because that was what I found first. Spot faced the down side 1/2 X .060 and turned the bolt heads to 7/16 X .050. See fuzzy picture. Drilled and counter board four 17/64 holes for the hold down screws. Using a double nut method, installed 3/8 bolts and that is about it. makes for a less attractive setup. But it is also smaller and less noticeable. Or at least I hope so when it's done. PS: I don't know how prices compare, but I have bought Aluminum online from Speedy Metals and was happy with the service

should be progressive I would think, Offy is usually good at using many of the same size parts, you may be able to adapt and make it the way you want, but I'd et it was progressive. and there looks like tons of space for which ever way you mount things.

I've bought aluminum slugs on e-bay and have been well pleased, actually quite a pile to look at, it's a much better place to shop than locally , e-bay guys sell what the guys up here throw away.

I kind of broke the edges and cleaned up the adapters a little. Need to do something about the Holleys.
