I WANT TO SWAP THE GEARS AND MAKE IT AN OPEN DRIVE REAR END ON MY DELIVERY .IM RUNNING A 235 ENGINE WITH A 200R TRANS, I WAS TOLD THAT A 55-57 CHEVY TRUCK WILL WORK TO KEEP IT 6 LUGS. CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME INFO ON THIS IF THEY TRIED IT OR WHAT REAREND PARTS THEY USED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS...

  2. check into late model small truck as lots of them were 6 lug, the chevrolet truck were kinda wide!

I've heard that you can swap the 3 member from a 55-57 TF without have to swap the entire rear end.

ill start looking for one , do i have to re-locate the lift spring on that rear end ?

  8. Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota should all work- I've mocked my early Chevy 6 lugs on my Toyota 4Runner a few times and they fit nicely :D!

nice ... but you had to relocate the mounts correct?

  10. Most likely, but you will probably have to do that with anything you find :)

Do your self a favor, and swap out the front brakes for some '53/54 Chev drum
brakes. It's a easy conversion, then you can run 5 lug wheels all around by
using a '55 or later passenger car rearend, which will fit your '40 much better.

Here is an easy way to at least partially check this. See if the 55 - 57 Chevy pickup rear end used the same center section gasket as your 40 Chevy sedan delivery. If they use different gaskets, the center sections will not interchange.

Just remember that both the pickup and the delivery have two rear end gaskets. One for the pumpkin and one for the rear cover.
