Thanks - gives insight into a world most of us know little about

  3. Great read, Ryan. Eric's work is nothing short of incredible. He's a magician with a pencil in his hand.

Great interview/article. I have been a big fan of Eric's work for awhile. You can see the influences of Stanford and Bradley in his work, but he has developed a style all his own. I can see a piece of his from across a shop and know it is an Eric Black design. The only thing missing in the interview are the tools of his trade...I would like to know more about his process and how he presents his ideas.
@Blackie care to enlighten us to what you use?

Pfft...Need a paper towel to wipe off all that dribble.....

Seriously....Eric is a pretty good friend of mine, and a great guy. Sure, he`s unbalanced, but most Hot Rodders are. In a good way.And way more talented than he will admit. And dreamy too...:p....

Speaking of talent--we were talking about a project I have in the shop, and his `quick ` ideas have made the results of those current modifications much more coherent. The ability to `see` a project is one that is downplayed alot in our macho Hot Rod psyche, but it is no less important to what we do. I`d recommend anyone that is thinking of `changing some lines around` to get in touch with Eric and make all those changes work together.......

  10. Fine article of a deserving subject. Glad to see Eric getting more recognition. I would hope that young guys who are still searching for their "identity" in life will re-read this a few times. You and Eric have done a good job of showing that it takes some searching, testing, learning from life's not always gentle lessons, to progress to a fulfilling career.................a good example of "do what you love to be happy".

As noted Eric doesn't just dream and draw, he is hands on as well. I hope he doesn't mind my posting up a couple pictures that reveal a bit more about him. If so, let me know and I will take them down. One is a pic of his truck in service, the other some art he shared with me on a Model A project he had intended for himself. 003 (6).JPG Former 30 coupe EB style 02.jpg

Thanks, that was fun to read. I'm glad that guys like Eric, Thom, and Steve have developed a part of their careers in which they can assist clients to visualize the outcome of their projects, and maybe make a buck or two. I know very well how helpful that can be in avoiding expensive mistakes, although I've used the assistance of some talented Photoshop artists like Rik Hoving and John Vernon to help direct my own projects.

I look forward to seeing future projects from Eric and his peers.

I had the honor of sitting next to him at lunch during last year's "Run for the Hills" Poker run my friend Jimmy does in southwest Washington, I was blown away by how humble he was.. I guess I was expecting a guy who "knew how good he was", but he turned out to just be a cool regular hot rod guy. Very cool guy.

  30. THAT was a nice interview! Good questions and insightful responses that really gave a look at what this guy is about. Very cool. Thanks!
