Event Coverage Hot Rod Dirt Drags 2015

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Nicks Hot Rod Garage, Feb 4, 2015.

  1. Dirt Drags! What?

That's right folks, back in the birth of drag racing the pioneers of the sport frequently dragged on dirt!

Pictured here at the Boulder Timing Association track in Boulder, Colorado (circa mid-1950s) is Cal Kennedy in T-33 tearing up the Dirt!

In fact, Colorado was a Hot-Bed of Dirt Drags in the early 50's, Colorado Springs own Cam Winders actually ran a track for more than 8 years east of Colorado Springs.

Here is coverage in Hot Rod Magazine.

So what's a guy to do that is somewhat nostalgic about these old cars and the pioneers that created these Hot Rod's I love?

Details: The Movie Manor has 2 drive-in theather’s, a 60 room hotel plus RV parking and camping, and a 1930’s dirt air strip

    The Plan
Friday: A run from everywhere to Monte Vista with tour stops along the way (Do you or your club want to host a run to Monte Vista?).
Friday Nite: 2 screens, 2 double features, 4 Hot Rod Movies!

If you have been to the Hotrod Hill Climb in Georgetown, CO then you know what to expect with this event. It will be absolutely top notch , well organized, family friendly , and truly nostalgic.
Mike, I'd love to come and participate, but I need to make sure I can get time off work and convince Angie to spend most of our vac days living in the 50's.
We are already planning on the Hill Climb again, hopefully with the 32 5W and would like to dirt drag my T.
We will try to make it.

Is that highway 160 in the background?

  20. Yes, the theater is on highway 160..

The strip runs parallel to 160 at the back of the drive-in.

  22. I got my room as soon as I heard this was happening. I think that was back in Jan. Anyhow, you can expect nothing but the greatest in nostalgia when Mike puts something on. When he puts on an event it literally takes you back in time and I LOVE IT!

I'm still waiting on a waterpump for our '51 Hudson that doesn't leak out of the box so we can drive it down to Monte Vista. Number 1 leaked at startup and number 2 leaked two weeks later. Number 3 should be here this coming week sometime.

If pump #3 doesn't work, give me a call. I found a couple of new rebuild kits and what appears to be a NOS pump.

What ever happened to that bike? I bought one that looked like it at portland swap meet in 87, ran it for a while and sold it in alaska. It ran in the early 80s up there. I'm
Wondering if it was the same bike.
