Cotton Werksmans' Ardun-powered T

Man, I love those cars. So much respect for those guys who built them!

 

Here's a picture of the Bob Knaak car at the Gilmore. Stopped there on the way to the Autorama this year. What an awesome museum. Spent all day Wednesday there.

I was a friend of Cottons back in the late 60s early70s when he was building his cars in a one car shop at home in Barrington. We both were building pretty radical cars in those days & visits led to ideas. Cottons rear engine car was based on some current at the time road & indy car things & just some home brew ideas. As it turned out more show than anything else. Those days were really the end of radical ideas in hot rod building. Cotton sold off some stuff & if I remember right bought a used Jaguar & then we lost track of each other. bill wallace

 

Unless my brain is playing tricks on me (happens regularly these days) IIRC Cotton was doing some B-ville or dry lakes racing with a flat motored car, can't remember what body or class.

Cotton's yellow roadster has been found. Jim Unruh, Bob Knaack, and the roadster's new owner Greg Hall secretly conspired to arrange a reunion between Cotton and his old rod the day after his 83rd birthday. Here is a 20 min. video of the reunion:

If anyone knows how to get in touch with Bob Knaack, could you please let me know.
He was my first exposure to Hot Rods in the 82' . He and I worked together for some time
and he took a young kid and taught him about hot rods !!!!

Sad update. For those who don't know, Cotton Werksman passed away on Saturday afternoon September 4th 2021. Rest in peace, Cotton.

 

I never got to meet him, but sure enjoyed seeing the cars he built, that ARDUN powered T was in a class of its own. Rest in Peace.

Never met him or anything but it still hits hard.
It's funny how someone can change how you "look" at things as a young fella...Hot Rod things, and make you appreciate the hidden bits, the structure, the thought process that goes in to it all.
Someone you never even knew...but appreciated from a few mag articles and pictures.

Rest in Peace Cotton!
