Hi, all. It's been a while. I've been playing with 283's again. That got me wondering. What's the quickest pass you've made with a dual quad 283 in a tri five? (Or similar weight car)

The newly re-created YOO HOO TOO 56 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery has dipped into the 13's with a 265 (with some modern tricks, and a 4 speed Hydro. It's also running 2 fours. Look up YOO HOO TOO on FaceBook for the details. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Dean Lowe: AWESOME! What gears? 4:88? 5:13?

  10. 4.46 gears. Trans was a B-W T-10. The stock cam was all done at about 6200. Best speed was 110.90 at Pomona.

  11. Ran 12.20's all day long. I believe I may have squeaked out a 12.19/12.18 once. All steel car except for the hood scoop. Sorry for the non HMAB friendly wheels.

Wow! That's awesome! What did you have in it?

  13. 283 that was 60 over with 1.94 heads, 650 center squirts (If I remember right), cannot remember the cam spec's (need to find the card), 13.1 compression, with 4.56 butt gears.
I was chatting with my grandpa this morning and he mentioned that the quickest it ran was a 12.02 @ 116mph.
The car weighed in at 3350lbs.

  14. Stupidly street racing got me a my fastest ride to jail one night.

  15. Ran a best of 14.7 in my 64 Malibu but it's a mostly stock 283 with only 1 quad (four jet). I don't see any reason a good one wouldn't get into the twelves.
I had a blast- chirping the tires going into 4th gear--

My last 295 with the 097 cam and milled iron bow tie heads 8.5:1 compression 42 lbs flywheel turned 12.99 @ 99mph at little River in my 55 years ago with a tremec 5 speed and 4.11 gears. It was all holeshot. No horsepower to speak of. 60 ft was about 1.70.

Not a pass, but when I was a kid (early 60s) some old guy (probably 20 something) had a dual quad '57 Vette that was pretty hot shit. (& he wasn't shy to let'r eat :D) Held the local street crown for a while.

Just as an example my 265 + 030 @ 3650#'s went high 13's @ 105 or so. This was in 1965. It held a couple of the alphabet AHRA records and only lost once in NHRA competition. Ran various two barrel combinations mostly big Pontiac 2GC's. Set one AHRA record with a 3 barrel cut in half!
