292 chevy 6 just whos running em?

Could someone tell me what the weight of a 292 is and how long are they from the front of the water pump to the rear of the engine block...Thanks

 

The duggan is a 12 port head not a cross flow.the intake entered at angle down into the head the exhaust sat just like it does on a stock head.

 

33" from fan mounting flange on the water pump to bellhousing flange. About 27" from pan to valve cover. Sorry, don't know thweweight

 

I'm building an injected,turboed 292 now for my 1 ton flatbed. I've got a good running 350 I'll trade for a good running 292. I'm pulling it out of the flatbed! Eddie the info you've here is good stuff the book,the sites,etc. These are torque motors and need to be driven as such,but with some work they can turn some respectable RPMs. As you'll read in Santucci's book Duntov designed the engine and designed in some surprises especially when it comes to using a hybrid head made from 2 V8 heads. You won't want to go there. There is much interchange between the 292 and the smaller 6s and the V8s. There is much that is unique to the 292. Do it ,have fun!

 

i run a injected, turbo, intercooled 292 /700r4 in my 65 elco. runs awsome and can lay down some serious rubber in 2nd gear. pulls like a frieght train from 3000 rpm while under boost. there is a really nice turbo manifold available now. you can find it on ebay.

What kind of porting can you do on the stock head? With out going to the Lump port sit up?
Do you just V the head bolt casting sitting in the middle?

I know this a old post but by chance I might get a answer!

My takeaway is that the pic is of the Mercruiser marine engine twin carb manifold.

 

Not currently running one but I have run them in the past and was happy with them. I had one in a '41 Chevy truck that just had the common hop up parts that would hold its own. Nothing fancy, a single four, a crane cam (as I recall) and a header all wrapped up in an other wise stock mill.

 

Have a bored and stroked 292 with 3x2, 270 cam and a T-5. Runs like a swiss watch for over 15 years. Gets over 20mpg on the freeway. Smooth, torque monster that is very reliable.

 

I'm building a 292 for my 56 Chevy. .060 over mild cam, Clifford Intake and exhaust. Holley carb. Where do you get the carb linkage for the Holley? Thanks JT

I got the linkage kit from Langdon's.

 

I spent a lot of effort on one of these. 292 bored 0.060 over (301) LP Gas pistone (increases compression) lump ported and flow work done with 0.020 shaved off the head. I used the book and asked a lot of questions from different forums. It is still on the engine stand and I still have to do the final head assembly. If I were to do it again I would save a few grand and go with a stocker. Unless you have a dedicated project for it. They are torque monsters no doubt.

 

i had a 292, fun motor. All that's left is a Clifford 2x2 intake if anyone's interested.
