Projects New life for old car shirts

I like to wear car T-shirts and try to buy colored ones but sometimes they are only available in white. What I have learned over the years is that white shirts and me do not get along very well. I usually manage to get involved in something that will get them dirty. I also do the guy thing and wash all my clothes in the same load. The end result is that my white shirts end up looking crappy and do not last as long as the colored ones.
Several years ago I found a way to bring new life to my old white T-shirts. I simply dyed them a different color. The dye only reacts to the white cotton fabric on the shirt while the printed image maintains it original colors. You can control the color depending on how much dye you use and how long you soak the shirt.
Now if I can solve the problem of the tiny holes I get from grinding and welding, I could extend the life of my shirts even further.

Mostly wear black jeans and black t-shirts to hide the daily filth because it's not easy being a Fat and Greasy Metal Mangler Extraordinaire. Every once and a while I'll wear a white t-shirt to repulse the wife and neighbors and to keep the bugs and mosquitoes away but at least the dogs still love me.

old T shirts make good seat (back) covers for bucket seats too. sorry no pics, sold the car.

 

All my old Car BikeT's I have kept . Going to by a new bike cover and Have my wife sow them on the outside of the cover.

I gave my daughter a few of my old white rod run shirts from the 80s. She tidied them. Now they are he favorite shirts.

That is a cool idea. I had a few I liked that became too small. They ended up as small pillows.

 

Got 4 quilts myself and also made a bedliner quilt for the pickup with the shirts

 

How about a headliner? Seat covers?

 

I'm at the point where I need to find someone to take two old shirts and sew them together so they fit me.

I don't have to dye my white car and bike shirts. Over time they turn odd colors on their own.
If it wasn't for souvenier shirts I wouldn't have anything to wear to weddings, funerals, or for fine dining!

I've cut the sleeves off a couple of old rod t-shirts and use them as seat covers in my daily pickup truck......

 

Great minds think alike. I dye all my old tighty whities brown to give them new life.....

 

I had thought of this but I think that the dye does little to blend in the black grease stains. Maybe soak them in grease and they will be one color...
