Well I want to thank everyone for the input. You definitely saved my butt from buyin wheels that would have been WAAAAY too wide!!!! It looks like it'll be 5"-6"reverse for me!!

I made these for the rear using 15x7 wheel shells and f100 centers. Backspace was set at 4", but it puts them pretty close to the frame. If you used 15x6 with 3" backspace they would look the same from the front. BFG 8.20 tires. 2003-06-12 03.23.09.jpg 2003-06-15 01.48.04.jpg

  14. Are you sure you posted the correct photos? Those tires look like radials and the wheels look like painted ralleys.

Lol, that is exactly what's on there now, but even worse ralleys and radials w/ painted white walls!!!! That's the way I bought it. Like I said I just ordered the supremes Easter Sunday and I'll order the steelies tomorrow morning. I'm makin my changes cuz the wheels and tires have been driving me CRAZY!!! Next will be new chassis and channeling the body. Then body and paint. Wow, $$$$!!!!!!
I was just askin what everyone thinks of my decision on wheel and tires combo I chose for my lil T....

  16. Sorry, I guess I'm a little slow sometimes. I'm not a fan of Supremes or mixing wheel types, but anything is going to look better what is on there now

  17. If they were '50s buick rims they were 6" I don't think they used a 7" rim until the '60s ( mid '60s).
My goto tire when I was a kid was a 9.00x15 they just looked fat of course that was a time when the kool kids had wide ovals.

An 8.20 on a 6" rim is about perfect, it makes the side bulge a little bit which makes them look good and fat. A tires that stands up straight on an heap just looks too resto unless you are building a '30s/'40s style car or a dragster.

image.jpg What I'm goin for is a sixties hot rod, and being that I wasn't around to see exactly what was goin on in the Hot Rod world and the fact that I a newbie at this hot rod stuff (but NOT to custom cars by no means) So to hear all the ol' rodders tell what they did back in the fifties and sixties is super helpful and I'm ALL EARS soaking it all up!!!!
So I'm just gonna have to learn as I go and listen and watch. I have seen plenty pictures showing I mismatched wheel type or even hub caps and steelies. Even though I don't understand why that is. It is the look I like and what I am goin for. The car is gonna be a rolling work in prosses. With this lil bucket T as inspiration!!!

Maybe things are different in the US to down here. Usually (down here) the tyre manufacturer/supplier will suggest recommended rim width. Most tyre fitters will have charts to go by, showing minimum and maximum allowable widths. Any way, you seem to have it sorted!

Your definitely right (in my opinion) 6" look prefect w/8.20's!!

  25. I run 8.20's on my sedan and I recently experimented with different width wheels. The 15x7" looked horrible the width of the tire was much wider than the tread width. I ended up settling on 15x6". Just my opinion though. The pic shows the 6" wheels
