Here are a couple of photos of the Trowell Roadster (later owned by Bobby Wolcott). It was built by Jiggs and A.D. Trowell in '53 when the brothers cannibalized an almost new, but wrecked '52 Olds 88, and swapped it's drivetrain into the Deuce. It was raced at road race events, as well as Caddo Mills.
Maybe Bobby can add some more history here...

Thanks for all of your comments. I am glad that you are enjoying the thread. I will post a few more Caddo Mills photos for your enjoyment. '32 roadster in process. Neat white walled and fender skirted Ford pick up in the background.

Bubba 67 - Thanks for posting the pictures of the Trowell roadster. A.D. Trowell was very well known and well liked driver. Here he is when he drove Bert Hallett's '32 at Caddo Mills. Thanks for posting.

Ed Wilkins special. Believe it or not this was Carroll Shelbys first car to race. Not sure if it was at the drags or at a sports car meet. If you find a poster of Carroll Shelby's racing cars you will see and illustration of it on the bottom of the poster.

  17. Does anyone have Pictures of Charlie Messer 1932 Ford Cabriolet or his Green 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe. I own the 1940 Coupe, it was
Original Maroon & Later Green. He ran Caddo Mills from 1951 til 1961. Both Cars were Flathead Powered. Any interesting Story's about Charlie Messer? I'd Appreicate them! Thanks

  19. The last tine I saw Charlies 32 Cabrio,it was sitting in a garage in McKinney,Texas,,This would be around 1960s (late).I used to see it sitting (I presume) at his house when he lived in Farmersville,Texas,
I have many times wondered what happened to it...The garage was in the old section of McKinney south of the square..about 2 blocks west of McDonald St.

I have a question for you Bobby. How did you first get into hot rods and race cars? And what was the favorite car you owned. It is great to get first hand information. Please.

I have posted about all the pictures from the early days. Time to move on to 1953-1960's. If you have anything at all from Texas please post up photos or stories. The best is yet to come. This is from 1956 or 1957. The famous DCB coupe and the Rollin Stone street roadster. 1956DCBStone800.jpg
