look it up... Fords and GMs are done differently so internet answers from memory aren't always accurate.
I looked it up and it's pretty scattered info. Do it one way for internally grounded gen and this way for externally grounded gen.......while no mention of how to tell the 2 apart. I figure if I got 5 replies here and 3 matched I'd be pretty safe. So far it looks like I remove the field wire from the reg and touch it to Battery. I want to B sure

That info had me with a bad generator........til I took it to a rebuilder who tested it several times, took it apart, back together and more testing, showing it to be fine. Back to square 1
