Well, I've been slacking! It's almost a month late but here's my Detroit Autorama coverage. Yes, it's been on my site for a month but hey it's here now Downtown Detroit is a beautiful place of buildings reaching for the sky amidst others crumbling from neglect. There is a fire burning within the proud locals that is not only admirable, but enviable. I truly hope that Detroit’s recovery continues. 2015 Detroit Autorama For years I’ve wanted to go to the Detroit Autorama. It’s the biggest indoor show in the industry in terms of stature. The Ridler is given out here (although 2 years in a row I couldn’t disagree more with who it went to), and it’s the home of the big 3! Detroit’s recent downturn has been talked about, yes the downtown area was a bit less populated than I expected for a city of this size but I can say this unequivocally, I loved my time in Detroit! The show was fantastic, I had more friends in the house than almost any other show I go to and the cars, well… just check out the rest of the photos to see. That's it for part 1 MUCH more to come, see you at a show, Royboy
Great shots. One of the finest shows in the country that never fails to satisfy. The renovated Cobo Hall is magnificent
LOOOOOVE this 57 Olds mild kustom! This sweet Merc is from the KC area, I've seen it a bunch lately and I'm fine with that. Jeff Norwell brought his newly finished D.A.D. Coupe. Neil Candy’s shop did the majority of the work. I was able to sit and talk to Jeff for a few minutes and it was a blast as always. He was gracious enough to let me record a bit of it for my podcast. It was his second appearance on my podcast, which makes me cool. Listen to the first Jeff Norwell appearance here, and the episode featuring a bunch of my friends recorded live at the Autorama here. I really dig this kustom 57 Ford from Nebraska. It's been at a few shows that I've been at in the last couple of years. I hope to get to shoot a feature video on the car for my Motornation.tv channel this year. That's it for part 3! If you want to see the full coverage of the event on my site (including the non-HAMB friendly ones), you can go here. More to come, see you at a show, Royboy
\ The Ernst Chevy in the Brother’s Customs booth. Cory Taulbert’s insanely kool roadster. That's it for part 5, more to come! See you at a show, Royboy
The basement of the 2015 Detroit Autorama. Ahhhh the basement. While the upstairs had many incredible machines, the downstairs was really more of my thing. The traditional rods and customs were spread amongst the upstairs and the “Extreme” basement display, but more concentrated in the basement. Soooooo clean! Perfection? Rivieras are just so damn cool. Flathead powered roaster… yes please. I believe this lil green machine is on the cover of a Street Rodder mag I just got in the mail. The Ernst Chevy. Taken by it’s owner, a Catholic Priest named Larry Ernst to Barris for customizing back in the day. Still cool to this day. That's it for this post, more to come! See you at a show, Royboy
Yes, the “rope” is made of panties. No, I didn’t catch that fact as soon as a grown man should have. Mercury made trucks in Canada, someone made this one slightly faster than factory. Love it. More to come! See you at a show, Royboy
Just when I thought I couldn't feel worse about missing this year's show, this one pops up in your coverage. 33 Packard 1002 Convertible Victoria, production body but built by Dietrich. This was my last job at the shop I left in '11. I'm really happy to see it there and Bruce is the goods man, a real friend. Just spent the weekend with him working on another of his 33 Packard collection. He drives this thing and that's as it should be. I wish I had known. Stay tuned, however, because the other guy who worked on this with me might be making a move. We both did fit and finish on this one and you can't tell who did what, also as it should be. This is a very correct and authentic car and Bruce (the owner) is very keen on proper details. Armed with scores of Packard blueprints, factory photos, color and trim samples, it doesn't leave much to question. Cars like this can inspire even the most rogue of hoodlums. Thanks for posting it. In case some of you are wondering, that color is called "Chatillion Gray", offered in 33 and 34 and it really works on this one.
Thankyou for such a great coverage. I am one that believes you can never take to many pictures. Geoff aka whodaky
While I work on the coverage of the Lonestar Roundup on my site here's the final posts of the Detroit Autorama. just a few more to go! Check out my blog for the Roundup coverage, I'll post it here as soon as I can get to it. See you at a show, Royboy
On Saturday the entire show was packed, including the basement. John Wells of Vintage Torque showing off some vintage threads. Here's some more of Norwell's new ride. Ed Tillrock shooting some Instagram images of Cory Taulbert’s ride in the basement at the Detroit Autorama
