To all 4 Banger experts. Opened up the engine yesterday. Lots of oil in the cylinders...? (Number 2 ran with a fouled plug before i opened it.) Poured MMO (thinner than oil) in the cylinders...next morning it was still there, nothing dripped out the bottom. I'm hoping it'll free up the rings... QUESTION: Do you guys think it the Piston Oil Rings or Valve Stem Seals? Mahalo Guys Tommy
Got the engine back together just before the Pacific Kulture Fest... The Oil pan plug was toast so I had to weld in a new one. (I was going to paint the whole engine with that green...Would have looked like a giant bubble gum) The engine ran great on Saturday...except I didn't flip the timing pin back and secured before the test drive. Gone & Oil spraying out ... Sunday time to go...before i made it over the mountains the engine started to run on one or two cylinders...smoke coming out of the filler neck... Didn't bring any tools (STUPID). got some cheapo tools from O-riley's Got the plugs out (ran on 2). got the timing adjusted without the timing pin...started to run better...went for it!... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=832324
You have done a lot of work since the last time I saw it. Also where is this swap meet you speak of? -Ed
Hi Ed Tx, I wish I had More Time for the jaloppy's... Swap Meet: The Swap Meet is twice a year up at Aiea High School. And it's only Car / Motorcycle parts. I'll post note here on HAMB next time around. -Tommy
Haven't driven the Sedan for a while... Why 1. Rainy Season in Hawaii 2. New Safety Check Law in Hawaii...(Jan 2014) Safety Guy have to take pictures of the vehicle...plus check a bunch of stuff So now there's evidence what the car looks like when checked. To pass as an original 1930 Ford it has to have fenders, all glass, hoods etc. Or "If it cam from the factory with Fenders, You Gotta have Fenders" "If it didn't have seat belts from the factory, No Need Seat Belts" I don't have / like fenders so I have to Street Rod Register it. Street Rod Registration: That means it has to have hydraulic breaks, seat belts, safety glass, DOT marked headlights, blinkers, break light, horn, windshield wiper... Other than that you can do pretty much anything to it. And now I GOT TERMITES!
Love your car, too bad about the new safety checks. Gotta love government, save us from ourselves, lol.
Finally found me some steel fenders, brackets & aprons for the Sedan. They need some TLC but overall in good shape! Now I can get a Safety Check as an original...no need street rod registration... yet! Stopped by the Friday Night Burger King Meet...looks like the right stuff! T
They say it's gonna rain tonight......who cares there's a car show in Hawaii Kai... OK...but This is ridiculous...!...and it's getting worse.. Took it for a ride...stayed "Bone Dry"...My Bones where Dry...
Thanks Guys! Kiwi...Yeah those little buggers Crack me up too! (They can try eat my house...but when they start chewing on my cars.!!!) Dean...Firestone 7.50-16 & 5.50-16
Got the Lights mounted (Essex Terraplane) - Had to heat & bend the light bar yo lign 'em up!? Original Steel Spiral wound wiring = scary...Insulation is falling of when touched. New "Power cord" wiring installed... Made Nice new running boards from "Shity Mill" Wood...Fancy! THE NEXT DAY...I Found these at the Swap Meet for $10.00/pair...Ordered the special bolts from Snyder's today. Safety Check Time! Also Found these $10/pair for my Phaeton Floor Project...And A spring compressor for 5 bucks.
The "Journey"... Drove from the windward side, over the mountains, in to town (Honolulu) @ 5 in the morning to beat traffic. Got the Safety Check and Registration done. T
Decorated the Sedan with some lights... Cheesy, Sure...The Neighbors / Neighbor Hood digged it! Happy Holidays!
Nice! Looks like you're having a great time with your Tudor. It was interesting to read the Hawaiian DMV rules for our old cars, as my Wife and I want to move to Hawaii in a few years, I'll need to start planning ahead.
Thanks Ryan Dig your sedan w. 32 frame, steelie's in the back and wires in the front! See Ya in Hawaii...later!
Then old Banger is getting worse and worse, Oil is coming out of the gear box, more smoke than motion from dead stop, Nice Rod Knock! Scored a Fresh Banger (Big Mahalo Bobby!)
I can come over to help work on the car, I need a dry place to sleep ( garage or car port and a skate board or bycicle to get to the beach..
