This is my first classic project. I'm 23 with a old soul. I got this car off eBay basically sight unseen from Missouri in fall of 2014.
    This is my build thread.

Hit me up with any question or if you have tips and tricks. I'm always looking to learn something new.

If you happen to stumble across this build, enjoy.

This is the car untouched by me when I first got it.

The car had wiring to run and that way it. And it was a rats nest. I got a painless fuse block and tore out every wire I could find and redid it all

I wanted to clean the motor up a bit because it really needed it

And this is where I am now. A t-5 swap bc the 3 speed locked up on me.

I had a machine shop redrill. Resurface. And balance my flywheel

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1428787998.194476.jpg

    I used a GM pressure plate 10 1/2"
    Stock flywheel
    1" 14 spine clutch disk 10"
    And the GM t5 adapter
    All from speedway
V8 bob informed me that my bellhousing is from a '49-'50 mercury

I currently have everything mocked up ready for a new crossmember

Wow. I didn't think anyone would actually come across my thread.

The car isn't too bad. It needs a little body work like rockers, quarters and floors. But what car doesn't. Haha

Very nice work. Looks to me you've got the right ideas of how to go about fixing up your shoebox.
Keep up the good work and enjoy your build.

This weekend what halfway productive. I tacked the trans cross member together. And because I'm still new to welding I'm having it finish welded by a professional. It was a lot harder to make when your only laying on your back. I still need to trim a little. Prime and paint.

Not bad. What's the reason for the double plate on the sides?

haha funny you ask.. its actually is taking up space due to cutting the length of the bracket too short by a quarter inch.

Looks like you started with something pretty cool to begin with. It's surprising what you can do with a whole lot of elbow grease and not a lot of money to make it look nice. Good job, keep it up. We need more young guns to keep the lifestyle alive.

as long I own this car it will always be powered by a flathead. I'm all about the cruise. Not the speed. Plus that flathead exhaust note... Too good.

I'm trying to change the car scene for my generation from import tuners back to old School rods and customs

  26. I got scared when I saw the flattie pulled out... glad to see it back in and looking good.

What are your plans out front? You're not planning on running that '49/'50 grille that's sitting on the front seat are you? :D

Haha. Don't worry. She still runs like a champ.

And no. It just came with the car. I'm looking to get a 55 merc front bumper. Saw it on Matt Egen's car and I knew that's what I wanted too. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1428963594.730215.jpg

I'm not gonna go that wild with the paint though

  28. cdoh, for a young man in this day and age, you got some mad skills. Glad you adopted the work ethic of "do it right the 1st time" ..."or don't do it at all"
Yanking the motor for a minor overhaul, painting the engine bay, and adapting a modern trans, is basically the same thing I am doing to my Olds 98. You're gonna love that 5spd. I swapped one into my buddy's '54 Stovebolt Chevy, and it made it SO much more fun to drive. Love the paint job on the dash, cool little characters.

Are you tuned into MotorNation.TV yet? Your homework, is to watch ALL the Mad Fabricators videos.
Keep up the good work. Thanks for posting.

Jakespeed63. Thanks. I finished the title. Haha.

As much as I loved the originality of 3 on the tree. I can't wait to floor shift this car. I'm really looking forward to morning cruising with my buddy and his 65 skylark.

Do you have a build thread of your olds?
