I just read through the whole thread, and I remember from the George DuVall interview that Ganahl wrote in Rod & Custom, or the one that was done in American Rodder (sorry, can't remember who wrote that one. Both about twenty years ago now) that the grill was made up of individual bars of sheetmetal (brass?) that was bent into a lazy "Z" shape. I would imagine that using a brake to bend that "lazy Z" shape then running it through a shinker/stretcher would be a start on the grill. Not saying it would be easy though...

great work! that is sure to be something when its finished! On another note; I find it hard to believe that with all the people that were connected to the original....that no one knows where it might be or what happened to it? Someone must know something...

This is amazing ! This car is an inspiration to a build I am doing and I am wondering if anyone can tell me about the headlights used on this. I have been told they are Woodlite lenses But when I look at actual Woodlite light the trim is different? So I am wondering what trim was actually used for the Tear Drops on both sides of the Grille? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

  16. Look close and you can see teardrop bezels probably hand crafted...

Thanks Nostalgia59, I am building a 1936 Buick 4 door sedan that we whacked the roof off and now in the process of making it into a Phaeton styled body with a hand made Duvall style windshield. The thing is we love the idea of No Headlights like this car has and I am trying to figure out what exactly they used for the trim and lenses. I believe that I will also hand make some sort of bezel that flows with the Buicks front end and hide the headlight like they did.

  18. The headlight trim, just like everything else on the car, was hand formed by Frank Kurtis.

Lights.jpg In the later pictures of it, you can see other headlights were added, I expect the ones originally on it weren't very effective. You can see them over the front fender.

I'm getting everything ready for paint. Made all the garnish moldings and painted all the interior parts. Still working on the body and doors, need lots of block sanding...
