Event Coverage ACME SPEED SHOP-Road Trip to the Round Up 2015

It's almost time to head out on our annual Road Trip to the Lonestar Round Up. This will our 8th year driving to the show. Last year my wife Cynthia (Acme Gal) decided to join me; it was best trip yet. It's just the two of us again this year....wonder what adventures are waiting for us.

She and I are starting to load the van today and only have a few things to finish on a long list titled "before Round Up". We are finally down to the short list: changing fluids in the van and giving a once over to get it road ready, sort and box new shirt designs and new art, and a few things I can't remember sitting here with my morning coffee.

Here is one of the new pinstripe art pieces. Patina copper panel with 1/8" steel pinstripe that has been finished with Japan brown after torching the steel hot.

Sleep last night, if you can call it that, was really more like a wrestling match with the sheets. I looked at the clock every hour hoping it was time; finally gave up trying at 4:30am.

Getting ready to leave for this year's Roundup was a bit of a thrash. Not on the "ACME" side of things but on the "SignSource" side. For those of you that don't know, our "real" business is building signs. We managed to land some good projects last year and for one reason or another they ALL postponed until now. So of course just as I am trying to wind down and start our annual trek to LSRU they are all coming alive.

I know that we will be making some extra stops this trip, not to get photos or scrounge for some rusty treasure but to return phone calls, check shop drawings and answer questions about all these live projects. Years past I would be grumpy about having to do this but this time I have a sense of gratitude; I am really happy to have this work. Thank god for the good people that work with me; Cecilia, Doug, Stuart, Mike and all the guys in the shop. I am in good hands.

So, as my trusty side kick ACME GAL puts the finishing touches on stuffing things into her suitcase and we take one last look around the house for forgotten road trip essentials; I would like to say Good Morning and welcome to our road trip.

Time to get lost in America; back roads here we co

Hi Y'all. Just wanted to formally introduce myself to the H.A.M.B. I'll be John's copilot on our Roadtrip to The RoundUp. 1st stop--Summit Inn for some great corned beef hash and eggs.

 

We are playing by ear, seeing which way the wind blows so we're not sure yet. Part of the fun for us is to not plan the trip to much. The only real planned stop is Sunday night on the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
