Well as a many of you will have read, Tony and I recently spent a week in New Zealand to attend the hot rod Blowout; put on by the Scroungers hot rod club.
Tony and I stayed with friends of Tony's, Julie and Mike; who looked after us extremely well.
The first day there ( Friday ) Julie, her daughter Lisa and her 2 children ( Lucy and Lincoln ) would take us down to the Beach Hop ( Mike had to work ). This was a bonus for us, as we didn't even know the Beach Hop would be on when we were there.
The Beach Hop takes place in a town called Whangamata, which is around 2 hours south east of Auckland on the east coast . The drive down allowed us to see some of the amazing country side of New Zealand. On the drive home we came a different way and got see more great scenery.
I won't say anything about the Beach Hop, other than there was a great variety of cars that attended the event that is in a stunning location.

There was a great variety of cars at the Beach Hop. The quality of cars was very high.
But the model A coupe I show in the next lot of images, is the car I liked the most.

I will continue to add images from our trip to New Zealand over the course of the next week or so. Along with various images from the week I spent at Rita and Tony's when we got back.

  16. Kool pics Geoff, always great to see pics of cars that I have never seen before, it appears they really have a great style of hot rods over there. Look forward to seeing the blow out ones now. The 3 window picture you took with the flathead is one of my favourites... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1428741871.855621.jpg

    Thanks guys for the responses.
Hi Wardog. That was one neat A coupe.
Hey JTR, yeah the Twin Spinner Tudor ( tudor ) was pretty neat and well used. No we haven't done anything to the hood of our 3W. Although we have set the left hand hood top on. You will see this when I show other shots.
Thanks Gary, I know we all hang out to see images of events, not matter where they are from around the world. Yeah that green 3W is a great hot rod. It came up for the Hot Rod Blowout on the Sunday. I took shots of it there, so you will get to see it again.
No worries tub1, yes there was a great variety. The cruising went on all afternoon when we were there.
Tom there were so many neat hot rods at the Beach Hop. Tony and I both liked that Vicky.
Thank you woodbutcher. I always take way to many images no matter what I am photographing. But from that one has a great record of 'stuff' and one also ends up with quite a few 'great shots'.
Stay tuned for more images later!

The Scroungers had invited the Burbank Choppers to attend the Hot Rod Blowout. Seven of the guys were able to make it to New Zealand for the event. They are a great bunch of down to earth Hot Rodders, who from what I saw were having a fantastic time. It was good to meet them all.

On the Saturday the Scroungers had organised a garage crawl, primarily to show the Choppers what was going on in garages in the area. Fortunately for Tony and I we were able to tag along with Mike.
I took a real lot of shots that day. I won't show them all, because I don't think it is my place to show all the stuff I saw in other peoples garages. Predominantly the shots are of the 13 or so cars that went on the garage crawl. Being parked in a group at various locations or on the road going to the next garage. I hope they are of interest and not to boring.
I won't describe all the hot rods, I will just post images. Feel free to ask questions.
The meeting point was the Little Sister Cafe.

From the Little Sister Cafe, we all headed off to the first garage. I jumped in with Tim ( Julie and Mike's son ) ,in his A tudor.

The A pickup on the left of the last 2 images, belongs to a guy named Mike. It is a beautifully built hot rod and features amazing workmanship and detail. The next few images are detail shots I took.
