I found out about this car a few years ago and "Its not For Sale". I never liked that answer so I went by to look at the car again yesterday but the owner was not home. I got his cell # from a neighbor and called him last night and same answer but, he was willing to show it to me again along with his 3 '62 Valiants. I met up with him this afternoon and he wasn't receptive to selling but a master-bater that I am I coerced a what if and how much. The response told me I might be able to buy it. Then he named a price and I reached for the cashola before he could back out which he tried to do. At 6:30 tonight I paid off the remaining balance and parts were loaded into my car. His dad bought it in 1950 and this guy drove it in his garage @ 1980 where it been sitting. His Dad was a P,D,C mechanic and won the Tech awards.
It will be nice to see this one on the road, what a history with the previous owners family. There are a lot of times that I wish I had my 39 Deluxe Coupe back. Good luck with your build
I got it home tonight but left my camera at home but those pics will come later from the neighbors. I stripped the old carpet out and took the back seat out to reveal floor pans. I'm really surprised at how good they were. The enclosed area saved it, sort of. I'm saying that because it could have been outside all these years. The original motor was swapped out for a 1940 Flathead because of no antifreeze. The steering column and front end were switched out for a 1947-48 front end. I have parts of the headlight buckets but no glass lenses but I do have a good pair of tear drop rings. It also came with 4 brand new tires and tubes ordered from Sears in the early eighty's. There still wrapped and were stored in the cool basement. I might get lucky and be able to use them for a little while. I can't get in the trunk and will probably have to go through the back seat to open it. The license plate frames were from the P,D,C dealership in Stuttgart,AR. where his father worked. I have all of the chrome, supposedly. Here are a few more pics.
Dorsey, you never cease to amaze me! You have some kind of sixth sense when it comes to finding and bringing home cool stuff!
I pulled the plugs and filled Cyl's with Kroil. I grabbed the fans and the motor is not stuck. YEA!!! I been spraying PB on everything. I found the"Motor Medic Lucky Piece" under the back seat. Its from Radiator Specialty Co. Charlotte, NC. Here are the early morning Bling Bling pics!!!
This is great. Another 1939 Ford Deluxe is saved. My 39 coupe has been sitting just a little longer but in dry storage. Good luck whatever you do with yours. No that's not it in my avatar.
I'm a big fan of the '39 Tudor, good score. I have a '39 Std. and should be getting a '39 Deluxe next week. Good luck.
Looks pretty good for an original unrestored. They must have changed the transmission too? No floor shifter like my 39 Deluxe.
Thanks Dino for putting my OLD arse out there for the world to see. You'll pay!!! Yes the steering collum was change out because of transmission problems. The front end was also switched out for a 40ish front end. I'll address those issues after I get it running.
A little diesel fuel on a dirty rag has done wonders for the paint that is left on my 52 Merc. There were literally lichens growing on the surface in places. It took some time and effort but what paint is left looks pretty decent compared to how it looked a few months ago. And I think the diesel fuel will help prevent further rusting. A little steel wool treatment on the chrome has it shining . Now the car looks inspiring enough to do a little more mechanical work on it. A couple of before and after shots here.
