An astonishing admission, given the outcome! It's like Westergard, Coachcraft, Dutch Darrin, or Harley Earl... truly an elegant, one of a kind masterpiece!
mostly tidying up small details. But doors got played with and channel widened to compensate for extended doors. Making spring loaded flaps.to cover where lowered window leaves a gap. slow but satisfying.
Looking great mate! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/index.php?threads/My '47 3W Dodge build..960954/ My build.
I have the same trouble with my phone! ;-) I see now what you're talking about with the bottom bow and the wheel well. I've had converts that have a flat spot on the wheel house that allows another inch or so for the bows to collapse on to. Since you'll have tall skinny tires, maybe there's a little clearance you could do that?
looking good. Nice touch lining the bottom of the parade boot with the bottoom edge of the hood...clean lines
Great work. It is good to watch the thread and your determination to get the right shapes in order to create the essence & vision of a car that may have existed in 1939. It exudes quality and would have been right at home in Hollywood in 1939. We are an envious lot. I picked up a 1940 Ford convertible that I would like to chop a couple inches and one of the headaches is the glass stainless trim to where I was thinking of making my own. You mastered the glass channel nicely. Look forward to seeing you complete this car. Godspeed. Glenn
If you're still tallying votes, roof #2 gets mime. Swoopy car needs swoopy roof. I agree, but now it makes me look for a corresponding crease in the door to carry the line front to back.
Option 2 looks perfect Q. She's a beauty. Looks like a lot of work, but your the right guy to do it. Stop jabbering on the Internet and get to work.
That car is going to be superb! I hope it makes it's way to Brisvegas so I can see it in the steel some day.
That just looks better every time you post new photos. I'd love to see you put a microphone and recorder in or near it just to record the comments and arguments as to how it is a one off Cadillac show car or coach built custom that belonged to some famous celebrity when it is all finished and first displayed.
Thanks Paolo, your italian humour is almost as bad as Aussie humour. . . .maybe you mean softtop not sunroof??
How did I miss this build!?...looks bad ass!..who needs a coup or roadster. Great lines, needs fade away in front fenders on doors...my 2 cents...love it!
Still playing with rear bow fabrication. As work progresses I've discovered that it is easier to fit the longer type 2 mechanism under the parde boot. One more thin bow to work out. Talk about origami.
That looks like it will work just fine, that will give the top a nice line. Glad you got it figured out!
This is really great. We'll have to catch up for a chat one day when we're both in Brisbane. It's hard to find traditional custom guys around here.
Yes Grant, but the 39 is in Perth where i work. I divide my time 50/50 perth /bris. but i have a bunch of Caddies at home. I have Few custom/hotrod mates. I sorted the roof bows this week and got a perfect latch system for the rear bow from a 68 Vet but it looks and works like it was made for the 39. RikHoving tidied up my messy work space to show the lines.
Hi Quentin: Cad is looking more fabulous with each post. The shot from above and behind really shows the tremendous elegance of your build. Thanks. TEB
Had a play with the steering wheel. I wound polester rope around the rim and then soaked in fibreglass resin. 5hrs and $50 materials so far. might paint the spigots and leave the rim part translucent. But at least it is a uniform solid piece now.
