Projects 63 Falcon Gasser (South East Gassers)

shop was a wreck! got the front half of the frame painted and the front axle done as well. Used a latemodel ford color that is very similar to gunmetal on the axle and used blp eggshell black on the frame. I started trying to use rattle can on the frame but quickly realized it was going to take forever and would cost a fortune

pulled the rear end out from under the car so that i could paint evertything seperate as well to give it a cleaner finished look

 

Nice Build. The hard work will all pay off soon. Keep at it. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

a shot from the back looking forward. Took a couple of hours with a wire brush and cleaned the rear rails up

got my gauges stuck in and the cage painted. Old tach and stewart warner oil and water gauges

 

front end put back together and under the car to stay hopefully

another shot of the rear end. It has 35 spline axles etc. Will prob need braced up a little better if i start making big power but should do just fine for now

Love the paint silhouette on the floor. In my shop you can track the history of all the builds by the paint signatures left behind. Same for the splash painted pliers... I have a couple of vice grips that have 7 or 8 shades of paint on them. Looks like the 70's puked on them.

 

checking ptv clearance before i sent the rotating assembly off to be balanced. The engine had been assembled for the last few years and sitting on a stand waiting to go into another project of mine but the falcon got fasttracked so i swapped out pistons for a set of je domes i had and sent it off to be rebalanced

 

Last update for the day. Engine is currently still torn down awaiting rotating assembly to come back from being balanced then i will stick it together and it will be ready to go

 

got the line lock on and the brake lines ran the other night. I think they turned out ok.


Finished painting my pedals as well. took a couple of hours cleaning up the master cylinder as well. It was under a couple of coats of red oxide primer when I got it

 

another angle. Im pretty happy with how everything is coming together so far. It still has a long long way to go before its done, but I plan to be at the greer race come hell or high water

Hay man glad to see you make so much progress. Quain was telling me about you and your build the other day. I run the 56 chevy 'Ol dirty bastard'. Hopefully I'll make it to the first race in rockingham, still need to finish up a few changes from over the winter. Anyway keep pecking at, nothing beat the feeling of the first time down the track with a new car.

thanks for all of the kind words guys. Hoping to knock out the rest of the bodywork and prep and have it ready to paint on Tuesday afternoon. If the weather cooperates I will be painting it outside to keep with the low budget build. I've had some pretty good luck with outdoor paintjobs before in terms of finished product

 

the hood had previously had the bracing cut out before I got it so it was a big wave. Filler isn't thick in it but it took a while to block it out

 

fenders were pretty rough as well

 

Getting a lesson from quain on how to use the English wheel. Decklid was pretty rough so we spend a little time and got it a lot better before I started using filler

 

had to make patch panels on the door bottoms

as you can see the door bottoms were pretty well gone

 

got the decklid fit on the car and figured out a way to only use one hood pin

You can see the two retaining straps I made to hold the front of the decklid down

 

More bodywork, the front of this fender was pretty bad, but I pulled it the best I could and got it decent


rolled outside for a little shop cleanup

 

Did a lot more blocking on the front end, finally getting it close

Made hood pin mounting points for the lower pins on the front end

 

ended up having to turn the rear lugs down so the would fit in the recesses on the rear wheels

 

Started getting my door alignment checked a body work started on doors as well

 

You can see just how pitted and rough the body really was in the next few pics. So far I have used over a gallon and a half of primer just trying to block all of the pits out

 

Last update for the day. Got the nose in primer finally! This bodywork has really kicked my ass and its the part I was looking forward to the most when I started, as it is where I have the most experience

 

Doing body work is a religious experience ..... just you and the Lord.
