0222151426.jpg Here is my recently acquired 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe. It wasn't in a barn... nope, it was tucked away in a garage in my area since 1966. The previous owner bought the car in 1964 in CA and moved to Washington state in 1966. It had been tucked away since then with an occasional drive.
It is powered by a 327 cheverolet V-8 that was mounted with a Hurst front mount, tri-five chevy 3-speed transmission and rear differential that was hung on the original Ford spring. Front suspension is stock with exception of '40 brakes. When i got the car, it had 14" cragar wheels and old radial tires. They didn't look right on the car, so I couldn't wait to take them off. I had a set of four 16" wheels from a 1947 ford lying around, so they are on it for now....

Very neat car! Way to stay with it- I'm sure you knew about it for a very long time before you got it. That's one to be proud of!

What a gorgeous car - congratulations!
IMO this year and body is the best looking Ford ever built.
You got just the right set of wheels now...
The only single thing to improve the exterior is you need to ditch the after market turn signal lights.

Get rid of those stupid looking aftermarket seal beam conversions. One of the things that makes these cars (37-39) so very neat are the beautiful headlights!

sorry, its just that a 39 Deluxe is one of my favorites. But I can't own everything I love.

Great find! I think the '39's look nicer than the '40's, just love that grille. Bob

What a neat find. Looks like lots of fun. Any chance you can share more pictures? I'd love to see the engine compartment and maybe even an as found with the Cragars. How is the rear axle hung with the original spring? Bones or ladder bars or.... I'm a sucker for and old build.

Here's a photo of the engine.. axle is hung on original rear spring with bones that were cut down and attached to lower edge of frame.

It has a modified interior.. black with dark red piping, chromed garnishes and glove box door. I will take a few pictures of interior and post them.

  17. Uh, dude, if someone hasn't beaten me to the punch, those are '40 Ford headlights/buckets/bezels, not the crappy aftermarket sealed beam conversions. Looks fine to me, but then again I'm partial to the '40.

Yeah... they are NOT aftermarket conversions... they are original '40 units. I don't mind them. If I find a nice set of '39's that match up with the look of the car, I might change them, but it's not at the top of my list.

One advantage of the 40 headlights is the integral parking light which you can turn into a turn signal with leds. Very nice find. I also prefer 39 Deluxe or 40 Standard - they have a really smooth look.

  21. Wildcycles, I'm choosing to NOT believe ANY of this story. It makes things just a LI'L bit easier for me.
'39 or '40 Coupe OR sedan is a dream car of mine.

  25. Nice, I'm another one who prefers a '39 Deluxe, or '40 standard over a '40 Deluxe.

Great find! Is that a large amount of clear silicone oozing out of the front of the intake? If so, there is that much on the inside waiting to make its way to the oil pump screen....... Not running your car down, just trying to save ya some grief. Dennis D
