A guy I know was using a 200 4r in his old Bonneville and pulled it for a heavy duty th400.
I have a chance to buy the 200 4r So I copied the code from the metal tag bolted to the right rear.

It's the CR that doesn't seem to fit. Most of the codes use 3 letters there. I found a few 2 letter codes but not CR.

Just curious, what do you hope to learn from code?

It's kind of hard to mistake a 200 4r with the unusual pan, but I wanted to see some internet info on this unit.
The missing info would tell me what vehicle it came out of, wouldn't it?
I already know it's not one of those superior Grand National units.

Can't help with the codes, but stock for stock you don't really want a pre-1987 unit.

A 1987 200-4R will have the hardened stator and hardened sun shell. It will also have the later direct drum with the aluminum apply piston.

The GN units have more servo area for the band as well. Overall tougher than the pre-1986 units, but they still need some help in a few areas to hold up behind a stout engine. Another minor advantage was the shift program, which is better than the grocery getting units.

I want to put it behind a Mercruiser 120(Chevy 153) and replace the 350/350 in my '36 Chevy pickup.

A basic internet search for TH2004R transmission code brought up several hits. This one does mention code but may not provide all of the info you need. I have a 200 4R awaiting an install in my 39. I would recommend that you do plenty of research before you commit to using this trans. Mine was rebuilt with most of the modifications needed to make it live in the 350 horse, 400 foot pounds of torque environment. You can PM me if you have more questions.

Dog gone it 39 guy, wish you already had that 200 in the 39. Putting one in my 40 tudor and sure would have liked to see your skills applied to your swap. That way I could copy and seem capable. Now I will just look back and say " why didn't I think of that?"

okiedokie The reason I chose the 200 over the 700 is that it is the same length as the 350 turbo. Since I already have a 350 Turbo in the 39 I thought it 200 might fit with less modification to the X member. The oil pan is larger though so I don't think it will be a slam dunk.

The swap will have to wait until I finish the 40 though. Probably next winter. Maybe you can do a tech thread on your install and I can learn from you this time.

The 200 fits pretty good. Requires trimming the CE lower plate to just behind the wishbone mount holes, and notching the lower part of the x member much like required for a 350TH, only a little more. The biggest change is moving the wishbones out to clear the trans pan. Now if using an independent front or a 4 bar that is obvously not a problem. I considered using a four bar, even bought one from Speedway only to discover that it will not work with the SoCal axle because of the 34" perch pin spacing. Good thing Speedway has great customer service. At this point I am working towards getting the engine/trans in place along with the front axle/spring in place to see where best to split bones to and what the clearance issues might exist with the frame rails. It is certainly doable and I decided that I would not be happy with a 350TH. I may have a SoCal 47" axle for sale soon. I will post some pictures at the risk of looking pretty amateurish.

I do have an M2 in the 39 so I have less issues than you. If I remember correctly the trans mount on the 200 is a little farther back than the 350 . Since my X member bottom plate is a bolt on that shouldn't be too hard to accommodate. I hope you can figure out a good combination that allows you to retain the axle.

Yes the mount is 5 11/16" farther to rear of the 350TH mount. I started this build to utilize all the extra parts I have on hand. So far that is not working so well. I may be looking at another CE MII kit. We'll see.

    Thanks for the replies.
I'm hoping for no major issues due to using a stock 4 cylinder motor.
I may have to place another tubular mount further back. A small price to pay for not having to alter my driveshaft.
Many who have heard my plans frown on pulling the V8 but I take it easy. Love to drive it...just don't like paying for gas.
I found the site you posted and a couple more but still haven't broken the CR code which should be the vehicle it was originally installed in. Looks like it was built in Nov. of '82, so an '83 model.

You are welcome. I am sure the 200 can handle the small engine. That is a pretty unusual engine swap.

I am not sure that this is the place to post my pictures of my mods to fit a 2004r into my 40 frame, and highjack the OP's thread, so I will just let anyone interested know to watch for my new thread.
