Should I drop my 63 s22 convertible? I was planning on it. New springs up front and 2 or 3 inch blocks in the back? Anyone have any experience in this area? Any and all comments appreciated.

  3. That's going to look awesome lowered!

  4. look into the shelby drop. you redrill the hole that locate the upper a arm. cheap and it improves handling.

On mine I cut a coil and put three inch blocks in the rear. Looked great. Drove great but had a little too much camber, glendales suggestion I believe fixes that.

I lowered my '62 2", the I bought drop springs from jamco and put 2" blocks in the rear. The car handles much better now.

THIS IS THE WAY TO GO!

NICE! I am going to do the same, what do you think about 3inchs? all around?

  10. i did 3 inches all around, cut coils in the front and removed one leaf in the back combined with blocks and air shocks/on-board compressor.

At the time I still had the stock 13" wheels and with the old rear leaf's, 2" drop was plenty. Since then I have gone up to 14" wheels with taller bias tires and now the 2" drop is kinda weak. While it drives and handles much much better with the new springs and shocks I'd like to go another inch so I'll probably be cutting 1 coil from the front springs. If you go with the Jamco springs just order a 3" drop spring to begin with.

yeah 3" blocks, keep in mind the new front springs will take a little time to settle so the front drop won't be as imediate. I'll try and post up a pic of mine tonight to give you an idea.

This is where I think you'd be sitting with a 3" drop.

Ok nice. I just found this thread. I ordered 2" drop springs for my 60 comet and thought I'd see if anyone had done the same on here. I see now what shes going to look like.
What do you guys think about side pipes for mine since its a 4 door? I went ahead and ordered new headers to replace the medieval looking cast iron exhaust header, and also to get a little more HP from this 144. So I'd like to do duals with a couple glass packs.
    Your thoughts?

    Never heard of him.o_O

Seriously, do the Shelby drop, and put a 1" anti-swaybar on it.

    Shorty bumpstops help too.

Your 144 can haul ass, with a few mods. No on the dual exhaust.

Akreone, did you need to go to a different type of shock with those springs? I am using 2" drop springs and am trying to figure out if I need different type of shocks.

You should hit the bump stops before the shocks bottom out.

My '63 Ranchero project has two cut coils coupled with the Shelby drop and 3" blocks in the rear.
Wheels are rare 13 inch 5 lug Cragars on Coker 5.20 13 inch tires.

Ok springs are in as well as the old shocks. It is definitely lower by about 1"-1.5". I take it they should eventually settle lower?
I hope they do because with these 13" wheels I am starting to think I should have went with a 3" drop.
    Havent touched the rear yet.

If the springs are new, they will settle. Once they settle, you can cut coils to get the final desired height, suspension travel, and bump stops permitting.
