I'll let you know if I ever sell one. Meanwhile , I'll just keep buying more shipping containers to keep them in.

  4. Looks like so far, most of us keep them for a long time.

Still have my first hotrod, growing up I heard numerous people say they have wished they have kept there's and that stuck with me. I also flipped allot of cars because the opportunity presented themselves to enjoy some and make some money. It also defined the future cars I wanted to build and keep.

  6. My '40 has been in the family since it was a year old; it's been in my custody since 1969. I've had the Cad powered A roadster since '99 so yeah; guess I keep them for awhile.

Found my 1930 Roadster body in 1962, sold it around 1975, got it back 25 years later. Plan is to finish it, or let my Grandson finish it if I wind up in the Great Swap Meet in the Sky before it needs to be wired. Bob

  13. I have only sold 2 of the 5 I have owned. I'm down to four. 1950 Chrysler in my avatar since 1968. My daily driver,1965 Buick skylark since 1982. I sold my 1966 f100 so i could buy the 1972 f100 in 2001. I finally sold my 1955 Desoto 2dr hardtop in 2013 because I didn't want to be "that guy" who hoards a car but cant/wont do anything with it. The last one we still have is the wifes unmentionable import driver. {since 2009}

I still have my first hot rod, which is also my first car ( 40 coupe). I drove it to high school.
I also have my Dad's first hot rod/first car that he had when he graduated high school in 1959 ( model A coupe). Along with four other drivers and three buildings full of future projects. I may have a problem.

Several of my cars were around at least 5 + years. I usually had an overlap because we all know one car is never enough. A few made it to the 15 to over 20 year mark which includes my Chopped 37 Chevy that I originally built in the 80's.
There are a few guys in our local car club who have had the same ride from the late 50's and 60's.

I bought an 85 Fiero GT in 1988 and still have it, and no intentions of selling. only problem with it is my old arthritic back sometimes has trouble bending enough to get in and out.

I keep our Daily driver OT cars for about 10 years. I keep my work trucks for 20+ years. Then I buy a new one off the lot. I keeps my rods, customs and project cars till completion or shortly before or after completion. I don't really enjoy owning / driving an older car. I really enjoy working on them however

I know guys buy them and flip them pretty quick. I buy, build and then flip; always selling to finance my next build project.
Longest cars on the road were my '48 Holden FX and '66 GTA Fairlane convertible, over 12yrs not including build time. My '35 Chebby phaeton has been on the road over 10yrs now, again not including build time.
My '46 Olds sedanette has been longer in the build stage longer than anything I've previously owned! o_O:eek::mad::oops:

Had my first car, the one in my avetar for almost 40 yrs, had to sell it last yr, my dailys last about 10 on average, and projects tend to hang around because they never seem to get finished

  24. Don,I bet you will keep the coupe this time! HRP

  25. Well, to quote Sarah Palin...."You betcha!" Maybe that was Tina Faye....
I had it about 15 years the first time. If I keep it 15 years this time then it will probably last as long as I will.
I have had my 56 Chebby since 1997 and my 1965 Vette since 1983 so I do tend to keep them a while. I will never understand what in the world I was thinking when I sold the coupe before.

Want to sell that ole sedan you got?...........................;)

  26. Like you,I won't make that mistake again. HRP

  27. I can't count the number of people I have run into that have regretted selling either their first car or their first hot rod.....don't do it fellas!!

Generally, I keep a car until the owner or the cops locate it.

I've had my 52 for 11 years this month. It's the first car I pretty much resurrected myself. I got it when I was 17, and have turned down some good offers for it since then. It's one I don't see myself ever selling, and possibly my 31 Pontiac I got back in July as well.

I've owned a lot of other cars, generally I'll do a little work and flip them, or trade them for something else I want to work on. Some cars I'll only keep 6 months to a year or so.
