Just got a ,53 indy chassis with steering front suspension and rear torsion and front grill, and suspension adjuster on the front. No wheels and tires, motor, rear, and a fiberglass body. It's supposed to be a Lesovsky chassis and raced in the early 50's I'd like some help finding period correct wheels and rear.An Offy would be nice , but I'm sure I'm dreaming. I post pictures tomorrow and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Josh Shaw or 32STUPRES (who crews for Bill Akin) would be good sources on here to help ID or ferret parts. Akin has 3 Offy powered Indy cars and Shaw is restoring cars.
I agree with you should research it's history before going any further than dreaming about what you will do in the future. You do have a piece of history. HRP
I checked the Roadster book,he didn't build one until 56 so you have an upright car. Offy engines are going for 50K.
There are some pretty nice replica indy cars made with Alfa romeo engines, this link may interest you guys? http://www.international-auto.com/high-speed-history.cfm
YES! That is how the Eddie Sacks roadster was ID'd years ago, the welds matched the original photos. Small details like this are what you need to inspect to prove the history of Vintage Race Cars. Bob
Get in touch with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum - since they restore and maintain old Indy cars I'm sure they could be a great source of info.
