So I am starting with a new inner skin and a new outer skin and have the hinges too. I want a trunk not a rumble. What does the bottom of the trunk lid rest on? What does the top of the lid rest on? Any and all pics of a trunk lid would help. Especially the gap in the front. Thanks.

The top rests on the hinge pins and the bottom on rubber bumpers in the rear pan/

Yes 32 5 window. Andy, how much of a gap do you have in the front? Thanks HRP. Will have a look.

  5. Perhaps this will help. You will need the part that is white along with a brace that goes underneath it.

    Don,
How wide is your fwd gap? What is that white part called?
Not trying to be lazy, but I am at work. Would you by any chance have a part number?

Never mind, I got the part numbers from Brookville. Inner trunk panel - b164. Rubber bumpers b41518. But am still curious about the front gap.

  9. Danny, I did that a couple of years ago, one of the first things I changed.

Brady, that white piece is a repro. The photo was taken before it was completely installed. There is hardly a noticeable gap there now. I don't think there is supposed to be a gap. Perhaps someone with their original still in place will chime in with a pic.

    Edit:
I think the gap I am talking about isn't the one you are talking about.

The white part is called the lower rain gutter trough. I like no less than 1/8 to 3/16 front gap, making sure the bottom doesn't hang out over the lower panel. You will also need the deck lid support arm so you don't open the deck lid to far which at it's worst can put a crease in the top skin of your lid.

Just finished rumble to trunk conversion. I've got about 3/16" at the top and pretty much all around the lid.

Sorry for the poor picture quality. I'm away from home and these are all I have available right now. Here's one showing the lower rain gutter and lid bumpers. IMG_2568.JPG

I substituted a pair of adjustable front hood bumpers 60s Mustang instead of using the stock bumpers on the rain gutter so I could get some adjustment on how the rear portion of the trunk lid sits. FWIW

Thanks for the pictures guys. Hey GaryN does that silver color looking bracket in the middle come with the lower rain gutter or did you purchase it separately? Thanks.

The silver bracket in the trough is the trunk latch striker and is usually separate?

That bracket is a separate item. Be careful when you buy the trunk hinges. Most of the ones you see for sale for about $20 or less don't include the part that bolts on the trunk lid. I'd have to do a little hunting to find where I bought mine but it wasn't easy to find with both parts and it was a lot more $$. I think around $50 or maybe more.

Well you did better than I did. Found them for $62. So I now have everything on order but striker plate and lock. Will order soon. Thanks everyone.

  20. Be sure to specify that you want a lock for trunk lid as rumble lock is different..one is longer shank that pokes thru your lid,,dont remember which is which...I ordered these locks and striker from C W Moss in Calif.

The long shank latch is for the rumble lid. I know 'cause I just sent one back to Mac's. They listed it to fit both.
