I got some from Speedway too. They leaked. Nice casting , crappy fittings.

I had a guy in Illinoise, Ron Kellogg, go thru my Rochester 2G carbs and do that to them using the proper plates. To prover their worthiness, I actually drove the car with just the center carb and baseplates only where the end carbs go. No leaks, ran perfect. Give him a call, look him up on www.chevytripower.com

I loosened the screws, then held the plates closed while I tightened them. Then, if they leak just a bit, give it just a bit of fuel. I opened the idle screws about 1/8 to 1/4 turn. It worked great, and was cheap.

Even though this is an old thread. I just got the speedway ones and they are almost as bad as the originals I had. Had to adjust them then lap them. Still don't seal 100 percent and I'm waiting on a fuel pressure regulator. But it did seem to idle good and the mixture screws on my center had an effect. All in all I would just modify originals or try hotrodcarbs.com stuff.

The $600-$800 kits at Hot Rod Carbs is a little pricey for me and I would like to modify them myself. I picked up my 3X2 Edelbrock manifold & Rochester carbs cost me $60 on C/L. I have done searches , but no real instruction on plugging the idle circuit. It looks like some are available for $200 on Ebay. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill
