I placed a want add in the Hamb classifieds. Wanted garnish molding. He responded with personal e-mail. Sounded very legit. I learned a valuable lesson about money-gram.

^^^ Why would a scammer use his real name? No one is gonna send a money gram to a guy named Abayomrunkoje

I don't think they were foreigners. The e-mail language was too American.

Money Gram is just bad for transactions, should only be used to send folks you know cash.

Consider yourself lucky on the 150, could have been much worse.

I know, doesn't make you feel better, but you are not the first to have this happen.

Curious though, did they PM you off this site, or....?

I know that some parts are hard to find, but usually if I can't touch the part I don't give the money.
That Ebay auction thing is maybe ok because they have some protection. Big company for new stuff is ok too. But used small stuff there are too many ways it can go wrong when dealing with an unknown person. That is my opinion even though I feel people are 90%+ honest. It takes a lot to recover from that bad percentage.

  18. I've bought some fairly expensive things from sellers here and everything was fine. I look at the profile, posts and if I like what I see, the deal is on. Money grams are as good as cash with zero recourse if things go bad with a deal.

I only deal with Alliance members here

  20. Have you PMed Ryan?
Did you have an address that you can Google earth?
If its a nigerian scam, the language always contains weird wording.
If its a local scam, there's usually a way to find the people.

Sorry the OP got scammed, but it seems that these scams have a lot in common:

    1. No pictures.
    2. No voice calls.
    3. No verifiable address.
    4. No verifiable email.
    5. Money Grams.

Friends don't let friends send Money Grams......

Anything like this below and run, they stick out like billet wheels at the Roundup. Sorry to the OP, I do tend to use escrow.com for anything sizable. Just shipped a 3x2 intake to New Zealand and used escrow.

...May my unexpected email be seen by you in good health kind sir. I am the sole heir and legal representative of my uncle who was killed recently in most tragic circumstances. My uncle was the most esteeemed General of the Kualompo rebel held province and before he died he passed to me a set of Ardun heads for safe keeping. I am told you are a worthy christian hot rodder and so I will sell them to you for just US$500 dollars. Send me all your personal details and those of your immediate family and a Western Union wire for $1,000, I will refund you the excessive amount...honest. Here are the details you would need for payment via Money Gram transfer:

    Name: Sheila Earl
Address: 12118 Walnut Park Xing Austin, TX 78753-6706

After payment, do email me the details below from the Money gram
    payment receipt:

    Sender's Name:
    Reference #:
    Amount Sent:

I shall email you a tracking # and other shipping info once she is done with shipping. Kindly let me know once you've made payment so I can have her complete shipping arrangement.

    thanks,
