Alright here are some more pics. The proof is in the pictures like I have said before this is not a permanent solution. This is to last long enough to afford new chrome. This is the side not done yet. This is the side that I have been working on.
Looks good. All Ive used that works is some steel wool and a bucket of water. Keep it wet and scrub away
tin foil and catsup works very well on older chrome...the acid in the catsup helps dissolve the rust...I don't recommend using it on newer chrome...I did and it marred the finish...
I have also had good luck with the super fine steel wool. I haven't found it to scratch if you use it lightly. It can make horrible chrome look good enough for a driver. You just have to keep at it since once your chrome is that bad then it will always return to that state.
No fix is permenant, once the chrome starts to go it is not coming back no matte what you do. I like the look of old chrome on an old car, if the car is getting a fresh pristine paint job that is a different story but if you can clean up the chrome on an old car and the car is not already rusting away then it does a lot to make it presentable.
