How many of you ever put their flathead powered hotrod on a dyno?
What kind of numbers did you pull at rear wheel?
    What engine configuration?

Im going to put mine on a dyno tomorrow and I am curious on what kind of numbers I should expect at the rear wheel compared to other flathead powered cars.

    Thanks in advance for responses....

    My engine configuration:
8BA ported and Relieved (276 cu in)
    4" crank
Potvin 3/8 full race street cam (375 lift & 280 duration)
    Offy 4.00 Heads
Offy 1075 intake w/ Dual 94s (edelbrock 94s running stock power valves and #44 jets)

Ill run Sunoco 110 for the dyno pull

Please report back. I'd really like to know how it does. When you say Potvin Full Race, which grind is it? Thanks.

140 to maybe 160 hp range. There have been a number of books written on dyno runs on flatheads of different configuration. JWLs book is one.

A friend had his AV8 on a dyno, it pulled a little over 160hp and he broke his trannys regularly. 8BA , Merc crank, 2x2, but I have no idea what the internals were.

  6. Any chance you'll be running a video? This'll be cool.

Ran my T bucket years ago. 276 Merc. Offy 400 heads, mystery cam, Offy 2x2 with 94's, Pertronix, adj. lifters, no relief, 5 spd and a banjo. Really, REALLY short driveshaft and bias plies. Went from 116 to 130 even with just tuning by the best in the biz....Dave Heniger.

I won a free dyno session at the Creative Workshop in Ft. Lauderdale
During their Cars & Coffee tomorrow morning.

I will definitely record it with my phone and a GoPro, and post results.

I have read a few books on the subject... But am looking for more real world numbers from cars that have been driven and normal use. I have quite a few miles on my rod and run the snot out of it.

I love the pic with the B-17 , two great-lookin' rides . Can't wait to see what the flatty pulls on the dyno.

My similar engine on an engine dyno produced 175 HP, so I agree with jseery that you'll see about 155 at the rear wheel.

Does the dyno yoh are running it on have a eddy brake? It will make more accurate power w one of those. Post up the dyno jet numbers. They are basically inflated numbers but it's the industry standard. Would be curious to see what you air fuels look like and what the fatty like as far as they go. Question is, why run 110? Do you always run 110? I would want to know what it would make on your normal fuel. My suggestion would be to baseline it and set a/f on normal fuel and then start adding 110. It will possibly make less power on 110 if it's not tuned for it. Your combo may not even have enough compression to take advantage of it either. Then again I've never dynoed a fatty or owned a running one yet.

Never had my 36 on the dyno but several engine runs were made before installing. Engine specs are:
284 cid 8BA ported and relieved
    3-5/16" bore 4-1/8" stroke
    1.6" intake and exhaust valves
    Isky Max 1 cam
    Edelbrock 1116 heads
I run one of Joe Abbin's not so traditional Holley 570 cfm/Weiand 142 supercharger kits but the engine initial run-in was with an Offenhauser triple intake and Stromberg 97s. Dyno runs were made both with the 97s and the supercharger with a graph below for the best runs in both configurations:

  28. Nothing to do with the original post but thought it was pretty interesting.
