    As the title states...

I'm looing for a good engine builder in the LA / Ventura county area.

I have a fresh 327 short block and heads, but I would like to have it assembled and dyno'd by someone who knows what they're doing.

I have also looked at crate motors, but I would like to help keep a local guy in business, and I like the way the 327 looks versus the new crate motors.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Keep in mind if one of those "know it all" makes an error you'll need to tear it down again. The difference in torque will make you a believer in 350 crate engines. Swap all the outside parts off that 327 and buy a balancer and got the best of all worlds.

You might try Speedway Transmission in Ontario. The business is owned and operated by Mike Johnson, who races Late Model oval stocks at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday nights. Mike is very cool and if he can't help might be able to send you in the correct direction. Here is the contact info and the man himself. Good luck.

Because what you asked for varies in degrees and expence. A "good" or "knowlagable" does not take anything for granted towards a engine build and that equals billable hours or a high fixed price to cover any issues that may arise during the build. Dyno time can be around $450/$500 for a half day, and most of that time is used just setting everything up and maybe 2 pulls and 1 jet and timing change.Hope you get in contact with some of the individuals mentioned and can get you going without major hassles or expence

Ron Dunlap of R&D machine did my 327 and it runs great. I built it as I like the engine era 327/350 hp - 65 Corvette. Ron is good and reasonable. If you want a race shop to build your motor then the price will be double or more. RPM in the same area builds lots of race motors and have a dyno. The last one my friend cost around $10,000.
Both of these shops are in Chatsworth.

I have been using JMS Racing for the last few years and would highly recommend them. They are honest, competent and seasonably priced. They are located at 5450 N. Peck Road In El Monte. (626) 579-4567 Mike is a good guy to work with.
