I have been collecting vintage wax cans for garage art. Bob K has some very interesting stories about the polish business as he worked for Leverniers custom.

One of their big competitors was Dr Dorner and his "liquid glass" polish. I guess he could not prove there was actually glass in it and he was forced to change the name to liquid 1st class

Dorner owned the Larocket custom built by Metz and it was on the front of the cans

Some of them have wonderful graphics

I was at a swap meet with Guffey last fall and the subject came up and he sold me a case of new old stock glitter glaze cans 252 pcs!!! I lined up about a hundred of em behind the boat

Anyone else collect these? Or am I the only goof ball?

I don't collect them, but whenever I run across them I enjoy seeing them. That's a pretty cool collection you've got there!

Pulled a few out of an old garage awhile ago. Probly nothing special, I'm no collector.

Does this mean I can resurrect my rattle can marble thread? Got lots of those :)

I worked in a chrome shop in the 70s and 80s and we used the pink can Glass Wax for cleaning / polishing the chrome. I have never found anything as good to polish chrome plating. I think they still make it but the changed the formula.

Didn't see any Blue Coral in your collection. Did it only come in bottles and not cans? That was the stuff to use here in the Midwest.

Yes indeed, this is the reason he had to change the name from liquid glass to liquid first class. he could not prove there was glass in it! I wonder if anyone believed the claim of glass dissolved by xray? sounds pretty far fetched....

Only Mike, would have 252 cans of Glitter Glaze laying around. The guy never ceases to amaze me! I love to shoot the crap with him for hours and always count on learning something new.

    Mark:

Doc Dorner was not a competitor, he was our biggest customer, we made Liquid Glass and Liquid First Class and it was the same formula as Custom, Custom was brown and Dorner's was pink. He had a pyramid scheme and that was the reason the feds went after him.

  27. Not exactly a collection, just the junk in the trunk of the '53 Henry J I dragged out of a garage after 38 years in storage. The Henry J is in the hands of a fellow HAMBer now, but the can of Liquid Kleener is still on a shelf in my garage...
