Forgot to say, tires are from Towel City Racing and wheels are from American Rebel MFG. Both made in the USA.

Wheels are 15x8. Tires are 10x29.5

Okay, update is not exactly on the Monster, but you will see the connection. Follow along. I have not had a truck for a few years and well, I need one to pull the Monster around with. So I've been wanting a Unibody Ford. After a half hearted search on Craiglist I can across this one. '62 Uni 3/4 ton, long beed, Yblock, four speed. Very solid and very straight. Been sitting for 12 years and they price was right. It has the tail gate too not shown. I had hoped to get it running on the cheap but after pulling the pan, (see photo) its going to need a bit more. So, I called @mctim64 also known as the Y-Block guy to help me out. The motor will be pulled tomorrow, weather permitting. Plans are to get it prepped for paint, replace the front window and sort out some other small issues. So, indulge me as I post on this from time to time as we also discuss the Canned Monster. Stay tuned.

The rain kept us from getting much done. Had about an hour Sat. eve and made a little progress on pulling the motor on the '62 Uni. My son's really getting into helping me.

And its good learning experience anyway. They don't have autoshop in High School anymore. Fortunately they have an AG shop class so they are able to learn basic mechanics, welding etc. on a low level.

 

Thinking paint like this for the Monster Hauler.

 

Pulled the motor on the "Monster Hauler". I now have a couple of metal sculptures to display. Engine is heading down to @mctim64 next weekend to get some therapy.

 

Ouch! I am thinking surgery is more in order. Seems therapy might not mend that fracture!

 

I have a bunch of updates to share on the Monster Hauler and the Monster build itself. I'll start with this for now and add to it over the next few days. On Saturday I hauled the truck motor down to @mctim64 and left him a pile parts. We discussed and finalized a plan to move forward with. Needless to say its going to be a sweet runner when its all said and done. More pics soon.

 

Disassembly/cleaning of the Monster Hauler engine. Motor is already .060 overbore and the cylinders look really good. Cam came out real easy as you can see from the thrust plate being broken. This motor has been through a lot with two bent rods and a broken piston but she will rise again.

Update from JG Design & Fabrication on the Monster build.

"After laying our spring fixed position, cycling the suspension, and determining our shackle mounts while giving us 45* degree shackle mount. We used a hole saw to drill the frame at 1.5" hole, then cleaned the holes up to make sure they were straight and level side to side. To verify our side to side trueness we run our bushing sleeves in the frame with a 1.25 OD tube through the frame / sleeves. Once leveled and squared, we tacked each side inside and out, then welded it out. We then ground our welds out, installed bushings after greasing with wheel bearing grease. Then a simple shackle install and there we have it."

@ottoman you are correct sir. Post has been corrected. @Roothawg After looking into doing the conversion and the additional costs associated it was a better deal to rebuild what I had.

Progress on the Monster Hauler heads. @mctim64 explains.
This original ecz-c head with 1.78 intakes and 1.54 exhaust.
Here is the after picture. Intakes are cut and ported or 1.92 valves, exhaust are still 1.54 but the throats are cut out a little larger and hard seats are installed

 

MAJOR UPDATE:

So here's a finished install of our shackles. Then a reference picture of rounding our tube overlays on the motor plate. We used heat, then the persuader aka a hammer, rolling them over the tube, tack l, weld, repeat. Once cooled we installed bushings in the motor mount then bolted up our tabs. Our tabs helped center the motor in the chassis, then just had to position it front to rear and centered our rear tail shaft verifying the motor square and level in the chassis.

Grill is now out of the Monster Hauler. Bumpers are next then a little welding up of some holes then let the sanding begin.

 

From the Monster Hauler engine as it arrived at my house. .060 over and after market pistons. When you run it out of oil and the bearings come apart, bad things happen. After sitting for ten years the guy who had it told the guy I bought it from that it ran when parked. That has become a running joke now.

JG Design & Fabrication has been busy. Front wheels are on and headers mocked up. Looking at making some tweaks to how the headers flow.

 

A very nice set of clean used .060 over 292 pistons on a set of balanced reconditioned EBU connecting rods. For our Monster Hauler. One step closer. Out with the old...

 

You really need a bigger hammer for use when dismantling an engine. You certainly could have reshaped those parts better then that.
