That looks really familiar. I actually might put the horseshoes back in. It appears our motors are sitting in similar positions. What did you end up running for exhaust?
In my excitement to get the motor and tranny back in the car, and headers on, I completely forgot to check fit a left side Belond header that I found mid-build. I'll have to hold it up tomorrow.

  2. My frame's pinched a bit so I had even a bigger clusterfuck going on with the motor mounts, steering box, starter, clutch linkage etc. I took the easy way out and ran the exhaust outside the frame rails. I also ran a "pull" style slave cylinder for the clutch arm, it put this mechanism behind the bell housing.

Here's are a few pics of the wiring harness so far. I have some black leather look firewall insulation enroute so the panel and wiring will need to come off one more time.

Here's where the battery ended up. It's a snug fit.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1419996588.154644.jpg

I also worked on springs for the clutch and brake pedal. Brakes are ready to bleed. I need to get the rear hubs back on.

Tonight I made plugs wires, and got the distributor set in. It will need to come out to prime the pump.

Picked up my driveshaft today. I used a 56 olds Pontiac manual transmission shaft as the tranny yoke and u- joint are somewhat unique. I think I might buy another joint off EBAY to insure I'll have a spare.
The shop thought they would do me a favor and rattle canned it over the rust so I had a little work to do prep. ( so I could rattle can it properly! )

Started modifying a 32 spoon pedal. I removed the arm from the original shaft.

I measured the pull distance on a Rochester 2bbl at 1 3/8" travel.

Then layed out the firewall and floor angle on a piece of cardboard and played around with some different positions and arm lengths before finding a good compromise, for spoon travel and height both at idle and full throttle.

I laid out an arm and cut it out of 3/16 steel. I'll weld this together.

The pedal has a bore just under 5/16". I'll open just a little to press in an oil lite bushing and use a 1/4" bolt for a cross shaft. More to come.

  9. Wow! What a treasure trove of build shots! I stopped by Kurts shop and met him not long after Steve passed. It was not far from where I lived and the bike shop I worked at in Blaine

Today I made some headway on the alternator bracket. I wanted to give it an oem look. It's close to everything around it but it clears the motor mount, engine, and the drag link just clears through the suspension travel. I need to make an adjustment bar, and maybe punch a few holes in the bracket for looks.

  12. The bracket looks good. That's a mini alternator isn't it? I wanted to put one on my roadster, but chickened out. now every time I open the hood and see that big old alternator, I kick myself for not stepping up and buying a mini alternator. Any how great job!

Yes, it's a 50A. It's small and light, and there inexpensive. There are quite a few sources on EBAY to get them in 30-60Amp ranges.
I got to looking at the Generator, how much it weighed, how much it would cover up the Edmunds stuff, and decided to make a concession.

progress is at a snails pace of late. I did get the alternator bracket lightened and painted. It just needs a tension bracket. It's hidden pretty well.

I received the carbs on Friday. One was damaged in shipping so I shipped it back on Saturday.

The mini-starter fitment has caused a few fits as well. It has multiple holes to clock the rear mount. The set I need to use have a bolt circle at least .020 off so it's heading back tomorrow.

We sold Steve's bugeye a month or so ago. The new buyers hired a transport company and they were about three weeks late from their three day window. They called Friday and said they would be picking it up Saturday! So I had to make a quick run to to Wisconsin to make sure it got loaded ok for its new home in Hood River Oregon. A little bittersweet, the car is going to a great new owner and I think he plans on doing some tracks days and auto crossing with it.

Well some progress. Got the last carb back. I found the Rochester bases were not going to seal, and I needed to make some adaptors. I was just getting ready to cut and drill them with a hole saw when Rusty stopped by and said he would machine them. A few hours later I had these.

It's been some time since I last posted. Some work was a little trivial, but yesterday I got the radiator and grille shell in place, and today I decided to put the body back on. Here's a few pics.

Getting ready to use my lift.

Nearly a 150 years of shop experience helped get the body on the frame

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1424648327.297583.jpg

A rare photo with me in it.

And one without. Time measure for some tires, so I placed a rear fender on.

    Eric,
I Just went through the whole thread again tonight. Wow! I forgot how much work was done to the frame before you got it. The car looks great! How did it go fitting the body on today?

    Chris,
Went pretty well, the lift worked great to lower the body down and no major surprises. The only gotcha is the fuel line out of the tank sending unit is unconfortably close to the a drop down in the floor. I might make an opening for an inspection plate, and a cover that gives a little more clearance.
    Having fun now!

  26. Great car, great thread.
    Thanks Eric, appreciate the detail

    Cheers,
