    Looking at that intersection, actually the next one up the street makes one wonder how they ever managed two way traffic on them. they are one way now, by the look of it on Google Maps.

    A lot of towns in the west did it to keep Okies in control during the depression.

  20. How about "Farmers and families escaping devastating drought condition caused by poor farming practices coupled with a 7 year period of ZERO rain". Not only were "Okies" affected and forced to move west but included were people from the Texas Panhandle, Kansas and yes even some from parts of southwest Nebraska. The plight of Oklahoma families "Okies", were immortalized and stand at the front of the migration due to songs by Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck's classic movie of the Joad family in "Grapes of Wrath". Watch the movie, an American history lesson in itself. Myself, not an "Okie" by birth, but I'm here now and I gotta say, not a bad place to be.
