Well I did it, my goal this year was to get the car from a car that hadn't seen the road in 18 years to somthing I could make it to speed week and back in. Mission accomplished. Was a great time even though it was canceled, its just a fun atmosphere. Cruised 65-70 no problem and got good fuel milage too! Scraped and painted the floors before I left which got rid of the smell on hot days. Also finished up the dash. Well winter is on the way and I've had a great time driving this car around. Drove it to Idaho a few weeks ago, about 800 miles round trip, drove great and got 18MPG! Put the stereo in and I'm getting the interior done this winter. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1414946736.960289.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1414946765.643025.jpg

Danger, I love your Merc, I'm heading to SLC this Christmas and would love to check it out
BTW, when I was 17 I bought a 55 Crown Vicky for 35 bucks, engine in pieces mounted in the trunk
had it running in 2 days. Right away I put a 12 generator, head lights and tail lights. That's it period.
Car had power seats and windows to boot. Radio worked, I worked for a Buick dealer at the time and every mechanic there said it would never work or catch fire. I never had a dash bulb burn out, ran the 6 volt starter and solenoid I drove that car for 6 years only doing a valve job after year 2. Never had any electrical issue with that car. Just food for thought.

Not sure it's one I got and then cut to fit and made some mounts. Sorry

  14. Glad you are enjoying the old girl! Hope you have as good a time as I have had in mine! I am hoping that after the Isky 400jr, Holly 8007, and T5 I can be looking at 24-26mpg.

I need in need of a visor, and this one looks real nice. I dont really like some of the ones with goofy sides.

Let me know how that works out for you, sounds awesome.

  17. Will do, hoping for first shake down run before St. Patrick's day

  18. Subscribed. Looking good man. Went the Mild Custom route on my 51 as well. It's only a four door, but I'm pretty happy with it. My first attempt at a 50's style car. I've always been a 60's/70's custom kinda guy. IMG_1223[1].JPG

Sound deadened the Merc this week. Been holding onto this for awhile and finally got around to it. Makes such a difference. Also have a line on a set of Merc passage vent windows. Mine don't kick out. If anybody has a picture of some put it up please. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1430011944.082489.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1430011959.204830.jpg

Haven't updated this post for awhile! Been driving the hell out of the Merc, drove it to the Hot Rod Hill Climb last summer and also another trip to Idaho. Car was in a mag call Street Machine Australia. Fixed some small things but nothing major done to the car. Might pull the motor and trans this winter just to repaint and seal everything. I did put a small hitch on it so I could haul my chopper around. Also was having some issues with vapor locking but I think I fixed that. The rear exhaust was touching the fuel tank and acting as a heat sink. I spaced it out and put a few layers of dyna mat on the bottom of the gas ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1469673994.984379.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1469674014.544752.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1469674045.059762.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1469674067.904499.jpg

Crap I forgot, I also scored some side wing Windows! I told my buddy how I really want a pair but there almost impossible to find, he said he thinks his dad had a pair. Next thing I know his dad gives them to me. He found them in a pawn shop for $25 with a sticker that said "make a great picture frame" I was beyond stoked. Make the air flow so much better in the car. One of my favorite upgrades so far.

Your's looks like mine , I've just got more doors. Where are you putting your radio? I'm trying to find a place, under the seat or on the rear axle hump in the trunk? CD players going in the glove box. I mounted the circuit panel box on the left kick panel under the dash so no speaker there.

It's under the seat right now but I'm thinking of sending in my original radio to have rebuilt with sub out puts and blue tooth.

If you still have the stereo in there I would recommend building a new sub enclosure. The prefab boxes normally are not built to the specs required by the subs. Building to the proper cubes will help get the deep sound and keep them from fighting each other. If you do chose to build your own smooth the port and round the edges, make sure there are not any squared parts inside the chamber. Fiber glassing the whole inside and then sanding it down to be like glass will give you the best air flow.

I put a Dakota Digital dash in so the radio in the dash is gone. Probably gonna put the amp on the axle hump in the trunk and do one of those handheld remote thingies.
