I'll second The Wheelsmith, quality work and good to deal with.

  4. Rally America had a big fire. Last I heard,
they were only doing wire wheels right now.

I've used Wheelsmith twice for powder coated steel wheels and they delivered a fine product I was completely satisfied with. BTW when I ordered from an event, in my case NSRA Louisville Nats shipping was free.

I got mine here: http://www.petepaulsen.com/home.html several years ago and they've held up well. One was a little out of round, I think, but certainly usable. It seems you tell until you mount a tire and mounting a tire voids the warranty. Go figure. Anyway, I have been pleased with the wheels and the price was good for the time.

Wheelsmith built me a set a number of years ago, powder coated candy color and I was extremely happy with them. I found their wheel prices to be competitive but found their accessory prices VERY high.

I have Pete Paulsen wheels on my 40. They are the best wheels I've ever purchased in the last 30 years. Also great people and will make it right if you have a problem. Not likely though. Mine are Chrome Smoothies!

  12. Bear Metal Kustoms / Early Wheel Company is an Alliance vender, and I am quite happy with the wheels they made for me a couple years ago. I am planning to have them do another set, soon, using my '49-51 Merc centers. ...really nice powder coating!

I have enquired at a local shop and to make 16s wider he needs 17 inch wires to cut the spokes slightly to fit the modern 16in hoops ,as the internal diameter is bigger ,,I have found 6in,,6.5in and 5.5in rims ,,I might go with the 5.5s,,,,but this is in Australia ,,,

Any explanation for "no help"? That's the business they're in!
