Great to watch and learn. Just shows what can be achieved with vision and skill. Can you put a white sheet over the doorway in the background? It's throwing my eye and making the rear widow look slightly crooked.
Yes I think perhaps the pass side rear roof needs to be massaged upwards slightly. Don't worry, took me three goes to get my 39 roof looking right. Might just be camera angles though.
@CadMad throw a white sheet because it's throwing YOUR eye off? Last time I checked mirko was working on the car haha... Great looking deck lid. One step closer! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
If a naked Italian goddess was standing beside the Caddy I'd ask Mirko to throw a white sheet over her too. just want to look at the Caddy. . . with my good eye.
This is an incredible build, I have been following since the first installment. Not wanting to be critical, I watched with keen interest for some time, but now that enough photos have been posted I can see what others have mentioned. I agree that there is a twist going on that needs to get fixed to the cars rear body. I reference my eye to parallels to the windshield's dash line. By actually using the edge of a piece of paper lined up with key data points in the pictures the problems become apparent. In this way small errors in camera angles have no importance. The top of the rear window does not parallel the bottom of the dash/windshield/cowl opening, yet the bottom of the rear window does. this indicates to me that the right rear of the top is slightly lower than the left side. This will also be manifested in a lateral twist to the rear window opening. Also I witness another anomaly with the bottom line of the trunk opening not being parallel to the line of the upper trunk opening which appears parallel with the cowl. The visual result is the longitudinal line of the right side trunk opening appears shorter than the left's line. While the trunks lower opening appears correct with the rear bumpers line the bumper also is not parallel to the cowl. When a line along the bumper or between the rear fender's taillight "tips" is extended to compare it's parallelity with a similar line through reference points on the cowl the misalignment becomes obvious. It appears the right rear quarter has been rotated upwards to the rear more than on the driver's side quarter. The result is the right taillight tip is higher in the air than the left tip. In short, the entire rear of the car is rotated counter clock wise relative to a horizontal line placed across the windshield opening. The reason I bring this up is I suffered the warping on my 36 Ford body from a long ago rear end collision. While proceeding on a complete restoration and customization, I began to notice distortions and twisted visual impression. With our myopic view of joints, welds, dents and panels it takes a standoff perspective to notice something like a longitudinal twist to the entire body. It was other people who first noticed the issue with my 36. The solution was to set up a laser level as a reference and with the use of "come-alongs", "ports-powers" and much measuring I was able to un-warp my the area where the top meets the rear quarter. If you take the time and trouble to repair these anomalies now it will make everything so much easier later. Best regards and good luck with all your endeavors, KB.
^^^^^ very well put. I have seen this but didn't want to say anything out of respect to the work that has gone into it. But you are correct fix it now instead of wishing it wasn't there. I truly respect the vision and work in the car but the twist is there and I hope it goes away. Love the car.
A good way to check will be to get a dead centre rear shot. then up load it and scroll the pic. so long as the car.and camera are level, all reference spots ,left and right should be the same. I've worked in the building game where rule of thumb can get you by, but cars tend to be alittle unforgiving to the eye. I have no doubt that it can easily be trued up given the skills already, shown here. Keep,us posted.
Well, i'm happy of yours advice, is true right side of rear hood was +-2 inch low, and CadMat first see this difference. We have take laser and settled this difference. Now i'm in holiday, next week i do a correct photo. Thanks to all, Mirko
Great news. Enjoy your holiday. Sometimes a break and a rest and a new start can revitalise a project.
