Nice purple coupe. That is some inspiration for my next 1/25th build.

I also need to build that red '41 that Hot Rod did a Rod Test on back in the late 70's. My copy of that mag disintegrated years ago. I need to track down a replacement.

Thanks. I do need to look there to find another copy. It always slips my mind when I'm perusing the bay. Always seem to be looking for hard parts and what not.

High Lou this is Pat from (previously) LI and Vintage Tin I had the Willys on LI in the 70's when you had the "Wine Peddler" truck. In any case I knew that statement to be wrong because Vinnie Tarentola never had a Willys coupe. Do you still have the sedan or did you sell it? I see Tom Goldman from PA who wound up with my old 40 Willys coupe and I understand you bought some stuff from him from that car, maybe the front axle. Anyway I live up in Rhinebeck now, have sold off all but a few Willys things and race the MG thats in my avitar.

    Take care,
    Pat

  19. Hey Louie. Yeah, my dad says he got the cars mixed up. He knew that you drove the Tarantola car, that's why he thought that was the nose. He did say that that nose came from the car that did a major wheelstand and bent the frame. I'll tell them both that you said hello.

Same car again, later on in 1965 or 1966 (posts # 4766, 4769, 4771) after Fred Bear sold it to Bob Chipper. Unfortunately this is pretty close to the end. After Chipper sold it, the story goes that it was wrecked by a runaway Altered wheelbase funny car somewhere in the Northeast.

Chipper_Hacker,PA.jpg Funny story that goes along with this. Several years ago before Bob Chipper passed away, Fred Bear spoke with him. He related the story about when he and a buddy came to Virginia from New York to pick up the car. They had pooled all their money to get the car and on the way home they had to look for gas stations that were closed with coke machines sitting outside. They would break in to the machines to get the change, and then find an open gas station to buy enough fuel to get to the next closed station. Great story and typical of the good old days!!

I believe all Willys nuts would love to know each car's "history", especially in a series of pictures.
