hey guys I fouxnd a 1968 4 bl intake for my 1985 (both 302) However my heads have an open coolant port to the manifold which line up in the 2 bl 1985 intake. The 1968 intake has no ports for coolant to flow through and the manifold is flat on top in that area, so the coolant in the heads at the back ports has nowhere to go through the intake. Am I going to have heating problems by not hacing the coolant flow from the rear port of the heads?
I have used early intakes on a late 302s never had a problem Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
I think the reason they added that crossover on newer engines was to be able to put a port to run coolant to the heater core. The coolant is pumped into the block, flows into the heads and comes out of the front ports on the heads into the intake to the thermostat. The heads have ports in both ends because they can be used on either side so the back would be the front. All the rear crossover would do is connect the 2 heads.
I put a early Offy intake on a 85 5.0, never had any problems with overheating or with the cabin heater functioning right either. You should be fine unless something freaky jumps up.
